Completely agree. This thread is a waste of time. If the OP is so interested in these vehicles, then he needs to do his own leg work to verify.

Agreed. This thread's are a waste of time unless there is definitive info (e.g. pic of dash AFTER car is done booting) or verification from someone who knows what they’re doing.

Since my used car shopping is done, my Autocheck and Carfax subscriptions are done and I have no ability to run VIN checks. OP should try to determine whether the car has been in a hot climate (e.g. Phoenix, Death Valley, Texas, etc. or even fairly hot like much of So Cal) via VIN those services.

OPs should point spotters to http://www.electricvehiclewiki.com/File ... bars_s.jpg as an example of 3 bar loser and http://www.electricvehiclewiki.com/Batt ... acity_Loss for more info. I recently had another street encounter w/someone who'd been leasing their Leaf for 14 months so far and didn't know about the capacity bars.

The car is from Madison WI so no hot climate. You guys are right. The guy who is writing this up has no clue about the battery since I can count over 9 bars in the blurry picture provided. Going to bid on it tomorrow and will keep you guys in the loop

Good plan. Wasn't trying to be pissy when I complained about the thread, but when folks having nearly 5 years practical experience with these cars tell you it isn't so, then it isn't so, and at that point it becomes a choice to either try and verify through the seller or roll the dice and bid.

Thanks mwalsh. I currently drive a Ford Cmax Energi and have been toying with the idea of a used leaf as a second car replacing our ICE SUV. I am debating if I should buy a 2012 for 10K or 2013 for 13k. Decisions :)

In the Nor Cal market, both are way too high, esp. if they're missing capacity bars.

See viewtopic.php?p=432095#p432095. Mine '13 still has all the bars and still has Hx and SOH hovering between 90.x% and 91.x%.

Not sure if this thread is indeed pointless, as this wonderful information could be great ammo against a used car dealer who doesn't know how the car works. Full disclosure: I'm about to get into the market for a used Leaf, and I fully intend to (figuratively) beat the stuffing out of anyone who tries to sell me a 2011 model. I might be a buyer, but anyone who's a seller who hasn't had the battery replaced will take a bath on it!

Here is the condition report of JN1AZ0CP4CT018445 which is at an auction in half an hour: http://mmsc400.manheim.com/MABEL/ECR2I. ... WO=2954174

Additional info in the report tells this: "BATTERY LIFE 5 BARS".
As you see from the picture of the car, it shows 12 capacity bars, and 9 charging bars, and 68miles.

I guess there are wrong information somewhere. Could it be that the battery is already swapped or fixed?
The condition report is from Aug 10th, and i doubt that the battery could be swapped since then.

Here is another 2012 with WA-title, at auction sept 2nd, with 12 capacity bars, and 6 charging bars which gives a driving range of 55 miles.
Is 55 miles good for a half full battery, and could it be a new battery here?

Re: Found a 2012 Leaf with ? bars (auction cars with inaccurate listings)

The idiots reported the 5 battery temperature bars that are showing as "BATTERY LIFE". The icon on that is pretty easy to interpret. You might be able to get 1800NOGASEV to look up the VIN if you actually think the car might have had a swap, but Washington is a pretty easy climate for the battery and I'm sure it hasn't.
