An interesting idea someone put up on a European EV forum a couple of weeks ago that might be of interest to people on this site. Someone suggested that Nissan would keep a small interest in their battery manufacturing operations
What do you mean suggest? That plan is the Nissan keeps a 25% stake in their deal with Envision Group: https://www.reuters.com/article/us-nissan-battery/nissan-agrees-to-sell-car-battery-unit-to-chinas-envision-group-idUSKBN1KO15A and https://newsroom.nissan-global.com/releases/release-ed7b0014763a42e1693c5c954e0607c2-180803-01-e. Unless this deal falls thru as well, like the previous one with GSR...

60-kWh Nissan LEAF Price Possibly Revealed In Dealer Documents?

https://insideevs.com/60-kwh-nissan-leaf-price/

Any guesses (before reading) what the expected US price will be for the 2019 long range Leaf?

The piece implies that the 2019 Leaf S will be available with a 60kwh option, by comparing the 60kwh car price with a base S. I doubt it, and think the price boost will be for a 60kwh SV, before any option packages. So yes, Bolt-comparable pricing. No surprise there.

Surprised by the potential cost. $5500 implies nearly $200/kWhr for the extra battery. Battery costs are lower than this, and the industry is pushing toward $100/kWhr.

Could be that the larger battery model also comes with some other extras.

I am thinking extended range available to SV/SL only which I would not like but would not surprise me.

Interesting article from Jalopnik https://jalopnik.com/the-long-range-nissan-leaf-e-plus-will-start-at-36-000-1829842708

“But if you are holding out for a more capable Leaf, Cars Direct cites leaked order guides in its report that the 60 kWh model will start at $36,000. An earlier report indicated it will also get a range of 225 miles. If accurate, that places the 60 kWh Leaf at about $1,500 less than the Chevy Bolt’s starting price while only lacking about a dozen miles of range.

The top of the line SL trim of the 60 kWh Leaf is reportedly around $42,000, and the introduction of the $37,000 60 kWh Leaf S will kill off the current 40 kWh Leaf SL, but lack a few of the options in exchange for longer range and more power.”

The $37,000 may be a typo as the article states the S’s MSRP at $36,000. Nothing about an active TMS.

According to a Japanese language website, the longer range LEAF will be at the LA Auto Show on 11/26-29.

One can hope...

Guess I'll be watching LA then. I can't wait to see what Nissan brings to the table.

No telling what will be there, but Nissan has indicated they are revealing a vehicle at the show. https://laautoshow.com/manufacturer/nissan

I think they will want a lot of attention when they do reveal it, so this would be a good chance to do that, in a market that is ready for longer range EVs, going into the new year.

I'm talking specifically about the 2019 60 kWh LEAF.
Do you think your source will have any information now? There were some posts in this thread saying production may have been scheduled to start in October. Most of the information here is unofficial/conjecture, so just wondering if a real source might have some information.

If the e-Plus isn't on the horizon, I need a serious Plan B. Thanks for any info on the e-Plus.

@eplus I seem to recall you live in Canada. If so, we are definitely getting the Hyundai Kona Electric and probably the Kia Niro EV too. The Kona has received so many positive reviews. If I were in the market for a new EV, that's definitely the car I would buy

I am in North America but one country south of CA ;) Either way, I would consider the 2 SUVs if they are available in a month or 2, but have my heart set on a LEAF, if it's at all possible.

I've driven a 2018 and really thought it stood on its own in comparison to the Model 3, which I drove beforehand the same day. With all the top 5 or 10 lists that have the LEAF on it (in a good way), it seems like a winner, if only the range were 200+.

It appears that the longer range Leaf may have been about to have it's European and Japanese launch. Then the arrest happened.
Simultaneous 2019 Nissan Leaf event's in Amsterdam and Yokohama on the 28th of November now cancelled. There are a couple of articles around stating it was for the longer range Leaf but I can't find anything concrete from Nissan.
link to one of those articles:
https://www.leftlanenews.com/nissan/leaf/nissan-postpones-launch-of-2019-leaf/

You would think if it was the e-plus Leaf then more information about it must be forthcoming pretty soonish?
Maybe as previously mentioned the LA Auto show late this week?

^^^
Thanks!

Eek. IIRC, in the '18 Leaf launch in Japan, I don't recall Ghosn speaking but Saikawa did + another guy who spoke English w/a French accent. I wonder if Ghosn or Saikawa were scheduled to speak. Even if it were the latter, I'm guessing he's been busy and/or distracted by the events surrounding the arrest.

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-nissan-ghosn-renault-alliance/renault-nissan-leaders-to-meet-amid-tensions-over-ghosn-ouster-idUSKCN1NU0LK also says
All three carmakers have stressed that operations and alliance business are proceeding as normal. Nissan, however, called off the launch of a high-performance Leaf electric car, cancelling Nov. 28 events in Yokohama and Amsterdam.

A Nissan spokesman gave no reason for the postponement and said the company had yet to set a new date for the announceme

Was this "high performance Leaf" the Nismo (largely cosmetic) treatment, or something like a Nismo (or just regular) 200HP Leaf Plus?
Beats me.

When the '18 Leaf was unveiled, besides a brief mention in the Japanese press event, https://nissannews.com/en-US/nissan/usa/presskits/us-2018-nissan-leaf-press-kit said "For those who want more excitement and performance, Nissan will also offer a new higher power, longer range version at a higher price for the 2019 model year."

There was a Nismo concept Leaf at Tokyo Motor Show 2017: https://driving.ca/nissan/leaf/auto-shows/tokyo-motor-show/nissan-unveils-leaf-nismo-at-2017-tokyo-motor-show. I was at that show and can confirm I took pics of it...

There was much more recent talk of the NISMO treatment for the 2018 Leaf being offered in the nest year. I don't recall where.
Hmmm.. it seems like the Nismo gen 2 Leaf was supposed to have already gone on sale at end of July 2018 given all of these:

https://electrek.co/2018/07/19/nissan-leaf-nismo-specs-launch-sale/

I do see https://www3.nissan.co.jp/vehicles/new/leaf/nismo.html, but I can't read Japanese.

Via Google translate:

"Commitment of NISMO is breathing throughout the body. Nissan leaf NISMO was born.

Sporty low & wide aeroform. Continuing from the front to the rear, a stylish NISMO red accent line. The exterior understood as NISMO at a glance attracts the surrounding gaze. And the interior shining red finisher will raise the expectation for the exciting running that starts from now."

"More exciting about the motor drive.

Direct and agile acceleration. Smooth and brisk running. NISMO's DNA will further refine the pleasant driving feel unique to electric vehicles without response delay. With a sporty style and exciting performance that feeds back racing technology, it opens up the experience of unexperienced electricity."

That last line seems a bit...ominous. Looks like cosmetics, although I remember mention of at least minor suspension upgrades as well. MUST HAVE...RED START BUTTON!!!

Further down on the Nismo Leaf page, it (translated). talks about a "Dedicated tuning computer (VCM)".

Given the dates I mentioned and the concept that was shown at Tokyo Motor Show last year, I tend to doubt the canceled Nov 28th event was going to be Nismo-related or only about a Nismo Leaf.
