Was wondering if I would ever see anyone else from this area. For a while I thought I was the only one. Actually I am in the Camas area but that is close enough to be the Portland area. Made my reservation on April 20 so should be one of the first. Haven't heard from anyone regarding the charging unit. Hopefully I will be one of the free-bees.

Has anyone in the Portland Metro area heard anything about charging station evaluations? Anyone have a dealer they're OK with? I've been talking to Tonkin in Wilsonville. Joel Fowler is their Leaf specialist.

Lurking Portlander here. I received the June 20 letter from eTec but nothing else. My tactic is to try to enjoy the summer and hope December gets here soon so I don't think about it too much. ;)

Is there much of a buzz in Eugene about the LEAF?

When I retire in a couple years we are thinking of spending summers in Eugene where we have good friends. We figured we could ship our LEAF there, but don't know what we would do for a Level 2 charger. Has anyone seen media about charger installations in Eugene?

Arrange to have a suitable, accessable 240v circuit and socket installed where you will be staying. Then, buy one of the soon-to-be-available Level 2 plugin-type EVSEs instead of a hard-wired EVSE. Consider getting a short adapter cord to plugin at RV parks. That is my plan.

Hello,
OK, so now I've heard from the EVproject. I got an email:
I assume I'm supposed to be able to choose options at the bottom but they don't work and my emails are bouncing back.

Dear Don,
Your responses on the questionnaire suggest that the installation at your residence of the EV charger may be more costly than allowed by EV Project guidelines. However, we would still like to include you in the EV Project.

We can arrange with you to have a local electrical contractor provide a free home assessment to determine the actual installation cost. This assessment may show that you do in fact qualify for a free home charging unit and free installation. If, however, the installation does fall outside of the EV Project cost guidelines, you will be offered a credit of up to $1200 toward the installation cost along with the free home charging unit.

If you choose not to accept this option, your registration with Nissan for the LEAF remains valid and you will be contacted by Nissan on your next steps.

We thank you for your willingness to participate in the EV Project and for deciding to be part of the gasoline-free future.

If you are interested in arranging a free home assessment, please send an email to [email protected]  to request an appointment.   Your prompt reply within the next 72 hours is greatly appreciated.

Please call me to schedule the survey home assessment

I do not want my home surveyed, please notify Nissan and keep my registration for the LEAF valid.

Here's another one from Corvallis; I've gotten the charger approval letter and getting ready to sell my Solectria Force to make room for the Leaf...

I had the opportunity to spend about 40 minutes with the Nissan Leaf specialist and a Nissan corporate representative at the Wilsonville Nissan dealership this morning (Thursday). I don't think I'm going to need a home charging station, and I wanted to know about the waiver I'm going to have to sign when I buy the car. I need to be sure I'm not waiving anything to do with the battery warranty. Neither had seen the waiver, but the rep promised to make it available to us as soon as he got a copy.

My order date is September (sometime in September), and I was told a car wouldn't be available until January. The rep doesn't expect many local deliveries in December.

He says there will be test drives in November at Washington Square.

The destination charge hasn't been announced yet. It's in addition to the MSRP, not included in it. For comparison, the destination charge for the Versa is $720, so it could be in that range.

The car is in town today for a media event, so we may see it on TV either tonight or tomorrow. I understand it will be downtown at PGE, and that the governor will do a test drive.

The destination charge is $820. If you look at the price info on the Nissan website under LEAF pricing info, you will see it near the bottom.

Just saying hello, another Portland Leaf registrant. Signed up end of April. Looking forward to when they finally arrive!
Mark

I am wondering if there are any Portland area dealers that are going to step up to the plate and offer $500 or $1000 below MSRP like in the Southern Calif. area? Now is the time.
A side note:
I am still on the radar for a free EVSE from Ecotality. They have more questions. If for some reason I don't qualify, I most definitely will not choose the AV one. I won't even have the assessment. My 40 amp circuit is already in the ideal spot for the EVSE so why should I pay $100 so they can tell me I'm a standard install and it will cost me $2200? When they call, I will just tell them to put me on the list for buying the EVSE without installation and then choose between the Leviton (my first choice) or the AV. Oh darn, that means I won't get the training on how to use it? Let's see, put the plug in the car, then push the ON button. When finished or even when not finished, push the OFF button, unplug the car and drive off. Oh, now I get it!! I cannot believe that Nissan is letting AV screw their customers like that. I am a retired union electrician and also was a union contractor in San Diego for 25 years and I would have never gouged the customer in the way that AV is. There is enough money to be made by giving a fair estimate for what the job should really cost. Anyway, sorry for venting.
I am in the September ordering and will be happy if I can get it in Dec. or Jan. just as long as I get it before gas is $5 a gallon.

What do you think a simple job like this should cost. Let us assume 3 visits to the house (including inspection). I'm guessing $300 + parts.

First, there should only be one visit to the house and that would be to do the install. the first visit would be by an estimator of which they are getting $100 to cover the cost. Also, the electrician doesn't need to be there for the inspection. So unless the install takes more then 1 day, there should only be 1 visit. Also, if they are charging $750 for the AV unit, you can bet it is marked up at least 100%. So if they get the unit wholesale for, say $300, it too gets marked up from the manufacturer probably 100%. I'm just guessing but I would bet an EVSE that only has an on/off/trouble buttons and is outfitted with some sort of ground fault capabilities would cost around $150 to manufacture.

Are there leafs anywhere people can look at and test drive or do you have to buy them based on what you've seen online so far?
