Our Sixth Year of Gatherings was in progress here.
See our Seventh Year here: http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=22460

Our LEAF group has become an extended family, with some evolving
with the times, and now arriving in other EVs, including Rav4EV, Tesla S,
BMW i3, and occasionally an iMev or Coda.
As with any good family, we welcome and enjoy this "growing up",
since it enriches the group, and provides us all with a better
perspective of the future.

So, the LEAF title for the Gathering evolves to "LEAF & EV"
until we think of something better.

Join us for a Saturday morning breakfast buffet at Hometown Buffet,
or some other location (see below), or for some other special event.

Nominally, we Gather from about 8:00 until about 11:00 AM, and some will arrive
at about 8:00 and some may stay later, if there is enough interest. Some come
for just a while, but have to leave early because they have a "real" life. :D

I usually try to arrive by 8:00, and I am usually among the last to leave.
HTB opens for Breakfast at 8:00, and transitions to their Lunch menu at about 11:00.

Usually, we LEAF/EV-Gather on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month,
but that is often modified to fit the holidays or other events in the month.
Occasionally we have Local Clusters for special events (**) at different locations.

NOTE: The Hometown Buffet in Cerritos is no more, new locations under discussion.
Testing new location at the Golden Corral in the City of Industry (see address below).

------------ Locations -------------

Golden Corral in City of Industry
17635 Castleton St
City of Industry, CA 91748
Phone: (626) 839-8188

This GC is located just South of the 60 freeway, 4 miles West of the 57 freeway,
about half way between the S. Azusa Ave exit on the West and the Fullerton Rd
exit on the East.  They open at 7:30 for breakfast on Saturday.

From south Orange County, go North on I-5, then North on 57,
and then about 4 miles West on the 60 freeway.

Hometown Buffet on 17th in Santa Ana:
Located just 2 blocks East of I-5 on 17th street in Santa Ana
1008 EAST 17TH STREET
SANTA ANA, CA 92701
Phone: (714) 541-3020
Their "breakfast" hours are from 8:00 until 11:00 (when "lunch" begins").
I usually plan to arrive about 8:00, and stay until at least 11:00.

Hometown Buffet in Cerritos:
About 0.2 miles east of the 605 freeway. Use the "South Street" exit about a mile south
of the 91 freeway, going east to 11471 South Street. The HTB is north of South Street,
"hidden" behind other buildings in the shopping center.

Cerritos Nissan:
18707 Studebaker Road, just west of 605. Take the first exit south of 91 (South St),
and go west one short block, turning right (north) onto Studebaker Road.
About 0.2 miles north, turn left onto Auto Square Dr. and then left again into Cerritos Nissan.

They have three L2 charging stations, but the two in front are often in use.
They have one QC machine that requires activation by an NRG/eVgo card ($$).
After hours, they typically block the entrances to the lot with "blocker" cars.
But, at least when I asked nicely, they were friendly, and helpful.
So, basically charging is only available during business hours.

------------- Misc ------------------
As always, Suggestions Welcome
Thanks everyone for your support and help.

Starting Year 6...

1. Our first Gathering of this new year of events is scheduled for
breakfast at the Hometown Buffet in Cerritos, about 2 blocks
East of 605 on South Street, which is the first exit off of 605
south of the 91 freeway.

2. Note, Upcoming Event near Cerritos HTB on 12 September 2015:

National Drive Electric Week Event - Long Beach
Saturday, September 12, 2015 - 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM

Houghton Park
6301 Myrtle Ave
Long Beach, CA 90805

3. Other NDEW events Saturday afternoon.

4. The big NDEW event in LA on Sunday the 13th.

So, ... We could have breakfast from 8 to 9:30 or 10 or so,
and go over to event #2, which is nearby. Most likely, that
is what I will do.

Or, we could go to this event at 9 or so, and meet at the HTB
(or Golden Corral) for lunch at about 12:30.

Any ideas or suggestions?

There is an informal meetup of Tesla owners (new, older, and prospective)
tomorrow, Saturday Sep 5th, at the Fountain Valley Supercharger, at 11 AM.
We will chat, then walk across the street to eat Lunch at the Souplantation.
This is near 405 and Euclid, see http://supercharge.info for the exact location.

If space permits, we will park the Tesla vehicles, near, but not in, the SC
charging stalls. Otherwise, we will attempt to use other parking spaces
nearest the Supercharger location, or just across the street in the
resturant's spaces nearest the SC location.

I intend to arrive around 10:30 to charge my car for awhile, then move
my car when we go into the resturant.

This might be a good time for prospective or new owners to get many
questions answered.

The OC Tesla Group meetup was a very nice success last Saturday.
Tom and I arrived at the FV Supercharger shortly after 10 AM, with 6 of the
8 spaces open, and we took 2 of the remaining spaces. By 11 AM other
members had arrived, some charging and others just parking in the roughly
17 adjacent parking spaces. By 11:30, the group had grown to about 12 cars
and 16 people, with other travelers arriving, charging, and leaving. I went
into the Souplantation to arrange a table, with about 18 or more Teslas
visible, and all 8 charging stalls full. Hopefully, most members moved
out of the charging spots to leave room for those passing through, but
the SC spaces appeared to be "occupied" before the group picture
and the trickle-in of the group members to our long table.

A few others arrived later, including one couple who just took delivery
of their Tesla a day or two ago, I think. It appeared that everyone had
a good time, with many conversations in progress at any given moment.

When we left, shortly after 1 PM, it appeared that all the SC spaces were
occupied, but there was no easy way to tell if anybody was waiting for
a charge, or eating, or shopping at the nearby Costco, or the adjacent Petsmart.

Is anybody other than me planning on eating breakfast at
the Hometown Buffet in Cerritos this coming Saturday?

I think that many are planning on going to the Long Beach
National Drive Electric Week (NDEW) event, which goes from
9 to noon "nearby". I am likely to arrive there by 10 or so,
after some breaking of the overnight fasting.

It could be a warm, even hot, day on Saturday, with today
and Friday forcast fot the high eighties, and Tu, Wed, and Th
predicted to be in the low 90s here in Laguna Hills.
Hopefully there will be some shade, but water, hats, and
sunscreen are probably important to consider.

Do we have any "meeting point" at the Long Beach event?

Cheers, Gary

I will go directly to Long Beach. I'd like to arrive early to scope out the event and see what staging options there are for the various car brands.

I need to leave on time, also, for a date with Mrs. Boomer later in the day.

Also, is anyone from our group planning to attend the Los Angeles event on Sunday at Exposition Park?

Kathleen?

I was planning on Diamond Bar later on Saturday I think.. dunno, still thinking about it, some of our other "Leaf'ers" in the group will be over there as well.

I think we may skip Cerritos and head straight down to LB as well. Is there going to be a spot similar to previous years?

And yes, Hilda and I will be there with both vehicles on Sunday fully loaded with like 9 people!

I plan to go to the Cerritos HTB at 8, just in case anybody shows up there.

Then, if there are newcomers or others there, I can lead them over to
the Long Beach NDEW event, planning to get there somewhere between
9 and 10. Hopefully I will see many of you there, and even park with
our group, at:

LB NDEW Event - 9 to Noon
Houghton Park
6301 Myrtle Ave
Long Beach, CA 90805

Cheers, Gary

Will be heading to the LB event from Signal Hill by streets around 8:30, so should get there around 9 am, I think I will not have enough time at HTB to get my money's worth so will pass on the Cerritos mtng tomorrow. (Thanks Gary for watching out for possible attendees there and will see you later in the morning)
Maybe explore lunch options after LB and before Diamond Bar, if we don't wilt from the heat before then?...... :?

Tom, if you feel up to it, hope to see you there, or in LA on Sunday I'm on volunteer duty there too, so will probably be there all day. See you all soon!

At the Cerritos HTB yesterday, we had 3 there by 8:07 for breakfast,
3 bodies with a LEAF and 2 Teslas. With this small group size, we
were able to discuss some really good issues.

Just as we were getting ready to leave for the Long Beach NDEW event,
three others arrived, and they needed help registering for this forum.
I said that they could call me to get help, and left maps with them for
the nearby National Drive Electric Week event.

So, not the smallest Gathering ever.

The next Gathering is in Santa Ana on September 26th.
Just 2 blocks East of 1-5 on 17th Street.

For those planning ahead:
10 Oct 2015 at Hometown Buffet in Cerritos.
24 Oct 2015 at the HTB on 17th Street in Santa Ana.

I would be interested in observations about the Bolt concept car from folks who also attended the Exposition Park NDEW event on Sunday.
I have read speculation that the Bolt has a 50 kWh battery, probably packaged as a slab under the floor. It may have a tweak to the battery chemistry relative to the Volt, trading power density for increased energy density. As a concept car, not pre-production, you probably were not allowed very close to the car. I also read that they may only make about 30K or so cars because that is the limit of what LG can supply in batteries.

Comments from Boomer23, 91040, others ?

Bolt is a couple of feet shorter than the Leaf, about the same width.

The car being shown only had a "crawler" drivetrain. No info on size of the battery. Only an iteration that the range (EPA) would be as they have advertised or better.

Interior was concept. Nav screen smaller than the Leaf. Roomy in the front, cramped in the back. Small trunk.

The Bolt concept has a similar interior styling to the i3, and is about the same size. We were allowed to get pretty close, but weren't allowed to sit in it.

What you see (inside or out) is nothing like what the production is going to be. The door handles are dangerous (this has been mentioned many times! Pinch points, the interior was very fake and non-movable, just static. The exterior and shape is still being finalized so don't hold this to the production car...

Thanks Jason, for the nice pictures, and the bottle of water on Saturday.
Also, it was nice to see your puppy again. He seems healthy and happy.
You guys do really good things. I am pleased to know you ... all 3 of you.
Blessings upon you, Gary

I got a photo credit from Inside EVs for a photo of the BMW i8 from Sunday's NDEW event that I posted in a Facebook group.
