Planning a trip next week from Portland, OR to San Diego CA. I have a 240v 14-50 evse that I am taking with a 14-50 to 14-30 conversion cord I am taking with me. Help!! Planned trip through Oregon. Now need to plan the rest. Need your help to plan the rest. I know some of you have already made this trip. I am hoping that you can help a new leaf driver.

I really hate to be so negative, but your trip is not what the LEAF was designed for or is easily doable. consider renting a gasser for this trip

Ok, since he posted here, let's assume that he already made that decision, and it still favored the LEAF for his trip over rail, ship, plane, bus or other oil burning road vehicle.

I recommend taking highway 199 / 101 through California. Your last DC quick charge will be at Grants Pass, not Ashland.

Thank you so much for your insite. Yes I am using plugshare. I have planned through Oregon so this is my route so far.
Portland to Salem DCQC 58 miles 20 minutes
Salem to Eugene DCQC 66 miles 20 minutes
Eugene to Roseburg DCQC 72 miles 20 minutes
Roseburg to grants pass DCQC 69 miles 20 minutes
Grants Pass to Ashland DCQC 42 miles 20 minutes
Ashland to Yreka 14-50 plug 39 miles 50 minutes
Yreka to Mount Shasta KOA 14-50 37 miles 50 minutes
Mount Shasta to Redding Level 2 j1772 60miles 2 hours
Redding to Chico DCQC 73 miles 20 minutes
Chico to Roseville DCQC 83 miles 20 minutes
Roseville to Elk Grove DCQC 31 miles 20 minutes
Elk Grove to Hickman DCQC 75 miles 20 minutes
Hickman to merced j1772 30 miles 1 hour
Merced to Fresno j1772 83 miles 3 hours
Fresno to Visalia DCQC 44 miles 20 minutes

From there I need your help. I called all networks and I have accounts with all of them. Called all the places I will stop and said they would be expecting me.

Well, you've already planned a far different route than I recommended.

Your recharge times are completely unrealistic. You are not going to drive 80-83 miles with any LEAF and recharge in 3 hours (J1772) or 20 minutes (CHAdeMO).

Whatever you do, don't get in a hurry. Ive taken long trips in my car too, and had a great time when I just enjoyed the whole trip and not tried to just get there. It's really a good life lesson I learned in my leaf. It's not the destination, but the entire trip. The one time I was in a rush (not my fault, something just came up and I had to get home immediately) the trip really sucked. Its really hard to just sit there and charge when you really just want to just be home.

You could do it if you drove 40 miles per hour! I went 110 miles, and left after 3 hours l2, but I drove 40 and left at 100 from the origin, and only charged to 80 at the destination

And do even more incredible short charge times over those distances by driving 12mph. Again, not realistic.

I’m with Tony Recommending the 101 coastal route. It’s summer, and a multi hour stop will wear in high central valley inland temps.

An alternate from Tony’s plan would be after Palo Alto, stay on the 101;
Salinas L2 at Rabobank, or Steinbeck Center
King City L2 Hartnell College or 14-50 at Ciudad Del Rey Motel & Trailer park ($20)
Paso Robles 14-50 RV Park or L2 at Oaks Hotel & Suites ($15)
Atascadero L2 at Rabobank
Santa Maria L2 at Rabobank or Santa Barbara Health Care Center
Santa Barbara L2 at Lot #7
Camarillo outlets eVgo DCQC or Thousand Oaks Transportation Center Blink DCQC
Then on to Malibu. This route has lots of alternates if you should need them.

If you go 99/5 try;
Shorepower site at Flying J truck stop in Lebec. (at 4000 ‘ elevation)
Castaic 14-50 at Castaic Lake RV Park ($15)
Burbank L2 at Sports Chalet on Burbank Mall
Orange eVgo DCQC at Outlets at Orange or L2 @ Main Place Mall

Have Plugshare.com access with you on a smartphone or iThing with WiFi. Enjoy the adventure :)
