Hello,

I'm enjoying Leaf Spy Pro and its' insight into my recently acquired used 2016 SV. However, evidently my SV is a 24kW battery, and even if I select the 24kW battery size in the "Settings" menu, it still seems to be calculating soc, gids, et al, as if it were a 30kW battery.

Am I doing something wrong?

It is impossible to tell - please provide the data you are questioning...
 
Battery capacity is measured in kWh, not “kW”.

It doesn't make any sense for a model year 2016 SV to have a 24 kWh battery from the factory. 2016 SV, SL and "S 30" have 30 kWh batteries. How many gids at a full charge? How many AHr visible in the screen that shows all the cell voltages, SOH and Hx?

(There was a case of a 30 kWh 4 bar loser where the dealer incorrectly installed a 24 kWh pack as a replacement. He had to go back and get that swapped out.)
 
Are you sure, Cwerdna? I seem to recall the 30kwh changeover happening during the 2016 MY, not right at the beginning, but my memory is not trustworthy.

Quite sure. Model year 2016 SV and SL always came with 30 kWh batteries, at least Nissan intended it that way. S trim was 24 kWh and there was never any official (?) pre-announcement of them upping the '16 S to 30 kWh near end of the '16 cycle.

If there were somehow model year '16 US Leaf SV or SL w/24 kWh batteries from the factory, this would be the first I've heard of it.

For '17, they made them all 30 kWh.
 
The most likely explanation, then is that the OP has an S that the dealer sold as an "SV" as so often happens in the used car market. It was the S battery I was thinking of, BTW. I had forgotten that the OP called it an SV.
 
I have Leaf Spy screen caps of the vehicle after full charge. I'm just coming back to this forum and I can't remember how to post pics. Do I do that here or at some other site with a link in the post?

You have to link pics from another site - not Photobucket. It looks to me like you have have a 30kwh pack showing, but degraded to 77% and just looking like a 24kwh pack for that reason. But I'm no expert on this...
 
The first bar drops at a really low point in the 30kwh cars. Check back in the 30kwh pack thread. I want to say it drops at roughly 75% SOH, but I'm not sure.

EDIT: I just spent a delightful 10 minutes reading in the aforementioned topic. The first bar drops at VERY ROUGHLY 80%. It can be higher, and I suspect that in cold weather it can be lower. You might have an 11 bar car that hasn't registered the bar loss because it's Winter. Is it warm where you live? Nissan seems to have programmed the BMS to wait until warm weather to drop a bar.

Thanks for looking at this. If this is a 30kWh battery, it seems like it has lost a lot of capacity for just 6.2k miles. Is there anyway to "eyeball" something in the vehicle to determine what the battery is?

Look up some of the 2016 battery threads. You'll find a LOT of people are griping about how quickly their 30kWh batteries are degrading. Some of them are worse than this. For LEAF battery degradation, calendar time and climate are the two big factors. Miles seems to be a distant third, at best.

Looks sure like a 30 kWh battery to me w/a lot of loss given the SOH and Hx values and gids on a full charge.

I found this 1 bar loser 30 kWh car: http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=23606&p=501678&hilit=gid+soh#p501678.

New 24 kWh batteries which would have SOH and Hx near 100% or even slightly above have between 281 and 290ish gids on a full charge.

http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?p=491823#p491823 is a claimed method to see battery pack size by VIN.
 
You cannot override LeafSpy's determination of battery size. It is calculated based on the current SOH and the current AHr rating of the battery. LeafSpy attempts to determine the original battery size based on those two numbers.

Looking at the VIN would not work for all countries as some VINs are just a sequence number (Japan). I am not even sure if the US VIN includes battery size.

Based on the degradation of your battery 30 kWh looks correct for its original capacity.
 
And, to add some more data points for the OP about a degraded 24 kWh battery. I lost my 1st capacity bar in Nov 2017 and it's still that way. My SOH is around 84.xx and 85.xx% now (used to be a little worse). My Hx is now around 80.xx%. AHr ends up being about 55.5-ish. I only get up to about high 230s to maybe 243 gids at max on a full charge.

A 24 kWh battery that is down to SOH 77% and Hx 75% would get nowhere near 61.xx AHr nor 282 gids on a full charge. Full charge is going to somewhere well below 230 gids (wild guess off the top of my head). I'd guess maybe 210 to 220-ish gids.
 
Thanks for responses. They've been most informative, and I am convinced that this vehicle must have the 30kWh battery. The documentation wasn't definitive. I hadn't realized the 30kWh degradation reality. I had hoped that Nissan had improved their battery, and am somewhat shocked and very disappointed to find otherwise. 30kWh ... but not for lonnnngggg! Nissan LEAF marketing really has proven disingenuous once again (it's an "art" I'm told).

Seems they've leveraged the scarce-competition-marketplace as a way to string enthusiasts along (myself among them). And while it'll be a while before "the data is in" regarding the newcomer competitors, Nissan may have squandered broader customer loyalty in the space they defined, innovated and (briefly) owned.

... a bitter taste? We'll see.

You can view the battery serial number with LeafSpy Pro on the Service/ECU version screen. The battery serial number is more likely to include battery size information.

Perhaps people could post their serial numbers for the 24 kWh and 30 kWh batteries and we can look for the differences.

My 2011 24 kWh serial number is 230JT1113A001477.

The important part seems to be the 230JT1113A with the remainder being a sequence number. Mine was made in Japan so "J" is probably where it was made.

The docs are definitive. Search http://nissannews.com/en-US/nissan/usa/presskits/us-2016-nissan-leaf-press-kit for 30, along with the Specs tab. If you have the factory nav system and piano black plastics in/around the center console and shifter, you have an SV or SL. If you have factory black leather, you have an SL. 2016 SV and SL only came with 30 kWh battery.

If you had the original Monroney (window) sticker, it should've indicated 107 miles EPA range and probably mentioned 30 kWh battery. 24 kWh Leafs from model year 2014 to 2016 (S trim of the '16) would have 84 miles EPA range.

I also had figured the 30 kWh battery was improved given its longer capacity warranty but we already have 2 30 kWh capacity loss threads and have 12 30 kWh 4 bar losers (http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?p=519601#p519601 + iPlug).

In contrast, I don't recall any 2015 "lizard" battery 4 bar losers, yet: http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=24532.

I agree, it is very disappointing.
