I purchased a salvage Nissan Leaf to recover the battery modules to use in my electric S-10 pickup conversion. (So yes, I got an entire car just for the battery...) It was in a rear end collision, and the front end was pushed into another car, but most things in the front behind the bumper are still good, as is the interior with the exception of the drivers seat and airbag.

Mechanically, the front end seems to be good (other than a possible coolant leak) and I was able to "drive" it around with the back wheels on wheel dollies before I dropped the pack.

You can see some photos of the car here:
http://www.summet.com/blog/2015/03/26/how-to-purchase-a-leaf-battery-pack-and-surrounding-car/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

You can see it "drive" here:

And if you want to see the inside of a battery, here are some of those photos:
http://www.summet.com/blog/2015/04/05/the-2013-nissan-leaf-lizard-battery-and-module-differences/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Anyways, I'm trying to sell some parts off of the car to reduce the price of my battery pack. If you are looking for something specific just email me ([email protected]).

I could use the antenna amp. I believe its the same part on the '11 and '13, but I'll double check later. The part includes the antenna base and a bit of wiring, you have to pull the headliner down to reach it. What would you sell it for?

I noticed on your blog you call the '13 cells "lizard" cells. While they are different than the '11-12 cells, it's the '15 cells that were introduced as having the "lizard" chemistry.

I was planning on doing the same thing and converting my 1987 944 Porsche or 1994 geo metro but using everything except the body. What price range should a person expect to pay for a complete car like that?

See my post here:

In it, I discuss the CoPart auto auction where I purchased the car, along with "typical" observed auction closing prices for multiple Nissan Leafs. My leaf was cheaper than typical (why I purchased it) but hopefully if you lurk on auto auction websites for long enough you will also be able to get a similar deal. My total all-in price including delivery, taxes, and fees was just above $4,100.

I really don't know how much any part on the Leaf is "worth". If anybody has a place where they look up used part prices I'd be interested in knowing it. I paid over $4,500 for the salvage car and the tools used to part it out, and my time spent pulling & shipping is time not spent working on my real project (converting S10 EV to lithium cells).

My general rule of thumb is I'd like to get 25% of what a dealer would charge you for it, and I have a minimum order of $20. (i.e. it's not worth my time to go out into the rain to pull small trim pieces out of the car for less than that....) On the other hand, any part that I DON'T sell is worth $0...

Make me a reasonably fair sounding offer and if nobody jumps in to bid more I'll probably sell it to you for that.

You are the 2nd person who mentioned this to me, so I will modify the blog posting to remove the "Lizard" reference from it. My understanding was that the 2013 battery was where the major change was made, but apparently the chemistry change wasn't made until very recently.

Unofficially there is there the idea that 2013s have improvements but it wasn't intil 2015 model year that the "lizard" battery was officially recognized. It's probably fair to assume your pack is better than a 2011.

It's all speculation because Nissan won't tell us. It's clear from user experience that 2013 batteries have worn a lot better than 2011/2012. We also know that *something* changed because if you order replacement batteries for your pre-2013 LEAF you also have to order an adapter harness that isn't required for 2013 and later.

Beyond that Nissan told us that the "Lizard" battery was formally introduced in 2015 (with hints that it also was used in some 2014 models) and that as of the introduction that all replacement batteries would be the "Lizard" type.

So you have two possible scenarios. One is that they introduced a new battery in 2013 (with no announcement) and then introduced another new battery in 2015 which they called the Lizard. The second scenario is that they introduced the Lizard battery quietly in 2013 and waited for a year and a half of real world data before making an announcement, then at that point chose not to disclose that the battery was introduced in 2013. I'd love to have Nissan tell us which it is.

I'm curious -- do you still have the navigation's SD card in it?

I believe this is the "S" package, as it doesn't appear to have a NAV system built in. (backup camera and radio/CD/XM plus phone bluetooth only...)

I have just removed the headlight modules. One of them had a black broken tab (that has the hole to bolt to the frame), and the other module had two broken tabs. (I've been able to epoxy them back in place, but I have no idea how well that will hold up....so the entire module may not be usable.)

My question: Does anybody need any parts from a headlight module? (e.g. is the clear plastic top part useful on it's own? Or will the headlight bulb thing inside be useful on it's own? The lights all worked.)

Does a broken mounting tab make it worthless, or are parts inside useful to anybody?

How much for the following items, headlights, charge port cover and hinge assembly, front hood hinges. It need to be shipped to So Cal. Also got mine from Copart after an accident. Ran fine but needed work.

Both headlights have two tabs broken, so unless you only need the clear (top) plastic or bulbs you'll need to look elsewhere. (I have them listed on ebay now). Somebody else already has dibs on the charge port cover and hindges (I won't be removing them until I'm finished cleaning out the "engine" compartment).

They did NOT need the charging port cover hinge assembly, so I can sell you that piece for $20 + S/H if you want it alone. PM me your email and I can send you photos.

I have the following items up for auction on ebay right now:

backup camera / rear gate handle:

side impact airbag sensor 98836-1MA0A:

Drivers side power mirror (glacier white):

Plastic Lens for rear passenger side taillight:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/151668748719" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Front door speaker:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/151668752031" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Radio/CD head unit:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/151666674705" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

RADIO SURROUND DASH BEZEL W/ HEATER CONTROLS 27500 3NF0A
http://www.ebay.com/itm/151666687782" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I might be interested in the clear plastic headlight lenses. Will they work for 2011 and do they separate off the rest of the assembly? Also interested in the external rear hatch light lens if it works for 2011.

I've been thinking of making a custom flush headlight. Do you still have them? I noticed they aren't on ebay anymore at least. I don't need the plastic on the outside. PM me if you still have them with how much you want for them.

Sorry, the headlights are sold.

How about the external hatch light lens that is in the center top of the rear lift gate and does it fit 2011? I just had the chance to go to your write-up. Very good job and with photos! Thanks for taking the time to document it for us.

If you are talking about the high center 3rd brake light, it has been sold, sorry.
