According to Andy Palmer, he puts global sales of Leafs at 45,000. Goes to show just how many more Leafs are being sold outside of both Japan and US(*), which the table in the OP only covers.

(*) currently at 31,180 through Aug 12, excluding JPN Aug 12 sales.

http://www.caradvice.com.au/189734/nissan-leaf-holden-volt-war-words-local-evs/

Quote:
When asked about Volt outselling Leaf in the US, (Andy) Palmer rolled his eyes and said: “Don’t read too much press.”

“Somehow or other we get compared month on month with the Volt in the United States. Volt sells in the United States and hardly anywhere else and Leaf sells all over the world,” Palmer said.

“For most of last year our monthly sales were ahead of Volt and a few months this year it has been behind, in the United States.”

“We have sold 45,000 Leafs globally, so it terms of overall sales the (pure) EV is way ahead.”
Palmer said that, in his opinion, the Volt isn’t even a proper electric vehicle.

“Volt is a plug-in hybrid, if you wanted to be kind it is a range extender,” he said.

“All of our emphasis is, does it have a tailpipe? If it has a tailpipe it is a hybrid, if it doesn’t then it is an electric car.”

Quote:
Palmer admitted the Leaf had not sold as well as Nissan was expecting last year.

”We had a few problems, not least an earthquake, that’s for sure,” he said.

“We are limited on what we can make right now, we are limited to 40,000 cars a year and they are all made in Japan.”

Sourcing from Japan meant Nissan had a “yen issue”, which affected profitability.

“From September this year we start manufacturing in the United States and from February next year we start manufacturing in the United Kingdom,” he said.

“That does two things: it lifts up capacity but it also gets you out of a yen-based currency.”

Thanks for keeping up this list, evnow.

I was wondering what the trend would look like if all the cars were combined, and came up with this:

If you just report by years, it looks like this:

Obviously we're in the early years of this generation of OEM plug-ins. But if you consider where we are compared to the early years of the hybrid rollout, the outlook is promising:

Ireland registration (not sale, so include for example demo cars) stats:
2011
Apr 18
May 12
June 4
Jul 6
Aug 2
Sep 1
Oct 0
Nov 1
Dec 1
2012
Jan 4
Feb 2
Mar 7
Apr 7
May 9
June 12
Jul 12
Aug 6

Total BEVs registered:
2008 - 5 cars
2009 - 2 cars
2010 - 18 cars, 0.02% share
2011 - 46 cars, 0.05% market share
2012 - 128 cars, 0.17% market share

Unfortunately commercial vans have no statistical data based on fuel, however I think in 2012 there was 42 Renault Kangoo ZE registered.

Currently no PHEV are on sale in Ireland.

It has long been my opinion that LEAF sales in the numbers the Smyrna factory is now capable of producing will be based on the number of buyers/lessees who learn that a new LEAF is actually one of the least-expensive cars they can buy, in total cost of ownership.

Anecdotal report of increased October LEAF sales, and what is driving them, at the video below:

http://green.autoblog.com/2012/10/26/ni ... les-month/

Quote:
Our friend Paul Scott knows a thing or two about electric vehicles (EVs), having been involved with Plug In America for years. These days, he's a Nissan Leaf salesman and his top technique is to, as he puts it, put butts in seats. Once people drive an EV, they often walk away with a better understanding of the potential change that EVs offer. Since he's one of the top EV salespeople in the US – he works for Nissan of Downtown LA – we asked how things have been going recently. The short version, Scott told AutoblogGreen, is that things are going incredibly well.

"Sales are very good right now," he said. "Nissan's aggressive pricing has jump started the Leaf sales and especially the Leaf lease. I'm pretty sure we'll see a record month for the Leaf when the national numbers come in. If other dealers are experiencing what we're experiencing, it'll be a record for certain.

"When the monthly payment dropped to less than many people spend for gas, the phone began to ring constantly...

"A good measure of how well the car is doing is that employees of our dealership began leasing the cars. This is very important since they can now speak from experience when selling the car to customers. Their glee in saving money on gas is clearly evident when they speak to customers and this becomes infectious.
