The fallacy with the numbers, as the story points out, is that a good number of them are in private homes...
This is due, in part, to the requirement to "fill them up" much more frequently than an ICE due to limited range...

Can't put a gas station in a home.

The electric charger network is millions of times more robust than the gas station network five years after the first mass consumer ICE was released. In 10 years, the only people with range anxiety, in my opinion, will be ICE cars as gas stations adapt to the changing times.

And it's comparing apples to bushels of oranges, as it were. How many pumps at an average Japanese gas station, I'd like to know. What is the average and maximum number of vehicles and miles per day that each station can service versus each charging point. "Lies, damned lies, and statistics!" LOL

But still, if any country needs to, "should", and might -- go all electric, it is Japan. Can you imagine where they'd be if Toyota and Honda had embraced BEVs and committed to Chademo five years ago?!

The salient point is that there is no need to... The average EV might need charging every other day... The average car needs a fill-up every other week...

The average EV will need charging every other week in three years :) and you still won't be able to put a gas station in your home.

What's a charge point? If you take the L1 brick, plug it in, and hang it on the wall, that's a charge point. So, there's one for every car. Most serve...only one car. Gas pump serves hundreds. Any attempted analogy is pointless.

A well wired duplex can service two cars at a point just as a pump can only serve two cars at a point of time.

The only arguable point is the rate of service, ie How much energy is dispensed per second, In ev linquo the 120V brick is not considered a charge point but a fail safe from what I have noticed.

You are either a dreamer or you drive very little... Not a chance in three years, otherwise...

Indeed. Even if we assume that the EV is ONLY used for weekday commuting, this is highly wishful thinking. The average commute is 29 miles/day. Two weeks (remember, weekday only) is 10 days. That's 290 miles. The "average" EV will certainly not have 290 mile range in 2018.

That said, it's likely that the average EV would survive from monday-friday without being plugged in. You could then plug in friday evening, and possibly during the weekend too, and cover all of your driving needs (outside of longer road trips).
