I'm in AZ and found that LEAF was already taken, but LEEF was not. I'm trying to think of something clever, about the car, or electricity, etc. FRANKLN was taken. Thought I might give Ben some credit for powering my car.

Any ideas will be appreciated!!!

I should think EV LEAF would be better than plain LEAF. Also taken? Then LEAF EV, MY LEAF, RF (Rich Franklin) LEAF. All so far.

Try "24 EDIE".

An ICE car uses gallons in the tank, the EV uses killowatt-hours (kWh).

I suggest calling one kWh an "edie" (e) after Thomas Edison, who did a lot for electricity, but does not have a unit named after him.

So, the Leaf would have a 24-edie "tank" (the traction battery), and get about 4 mpe (miles per edie).
On hills or ??, maybe only 2.5 or 3 mpe?

One might "top up" (charge) after driving 50 miles and pay for maybe 13.67 edies, at perhaps $0.10 each, ... total $1.37 for the 50 miles.

Now, do you have "Super-Clean" edies in YOUR tank?

Note: I think the "mpe" rolls well off the tongue, much easier than mpkWh.

My bud Malcolm just got "Leaf Me" in California. Plates are at the DMV ready to pick up...

He says "Leaf Me 2" is available with half-spacing...

I'm not ready to buy the plate yet, but this is what I like and it is available:

OK, I confess, I'm an 'early adopter' pretty much a bit ahead of the curve with cars, so I bought the plate for my wife's smart fortwo at least a year in advance of securing a reservation (she has SMART for her IL plate (actually it's the Environmental series so it's officially E-SMART), it turns out that there isn't much hype with the new LEAF out here so lot's of variations of plates are available but then I saw this:

http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/ful...HB&DocNum=4717&LegID=49002&SpecSess=&Session=

This bill has passed into law which will be a nice price reduction on registrations (only $18/yr) for EV driver's but our DMV (Sec of State in IL) has no info yet posted. They may choose to issue strictly EV series plates or not so rather than put a nice LEAF plate on another car while we wait I guess I'll hold off for now. I plan to do more checking but wasn't sure where to post this for feedback from other IL forum members if we have any here. While I haven't seen any of the EV purchase incentives in IL as with other states this 'act' saves you $81/yr in license fees which at least is a start in the right direction. You may also want to check your own DMV sites as they may go the same route before reserving your own vanity plates ...

Will edit as I find more ... appears to be for just commercial EV's but I believe this law expands to non-commercial as well ... (plate shown on page 9)

A bit dated but shows how many EV's registered in IL:

I saw a great plate on a Prius. IBRK4KW. Very funny!

I wish CA would give an deal on EV registration, our charges went way up, sales tax alone is 9.5%.

The IL rebates are supposed to be up to $4K. I'm not so vane to get a vanity plate, but wouldn't mind one if they were the same price as the regular plates. I would go with something like KOLPWRD for coal powered, since, unfotrunately most of the energy generated around here is by coal fired plants. However, an encouraging sign is all the wind farms popping up between Chicago and Rockford and along the I88 alley.

As far as coal, ComEd which covers a large part of Chicago generates most of its electricity (92%) with Nuclear (similar to France):

And while the radioactive waste will always be an issue to dispose of to quote them: 'Nuclear power plants emit virtually no greenhouse gases and supply about 20% of the nation’s electricity needs.'

I tried for F BIG OIL, but it wasn't available.

FUBP is available in WA ... but any of these may get rejected when they review.

Unfortunately Electra is not.

I have mine picked out, and it was available in CA the last time I looked but I'm not telling here... not that I don't trust anyone on this board.

That's good to know. I didn't know that. I thought I remember reading otherwise. However, that begs the question: "Why are my ComEd bills so damn high?" Thought nuclear power is supposed to be cheaper. :?

Darels (the evnut) is the best on his license plate frame: "Let's play find the tailpipe"

I think that's great framed around any plate you have :)

According to the site linked below and wikipedia, IL gets about 48% of it's electricity from coal and 48% from nuclear.

That's for the entire state -- there are other electrical utilities in IL (Ameren, SIEC, etc.) which use more coal so can understand the higher coal % number overall -- should also be noted that ComEd's parent (Exelon) covers more than just IL so it depends on how the numbers get sliced and diced -- regardless, it just shows it's not simply coal; another quote off of Exelon's site: Exelon Nuclear represents approximately 20% of the U.S. nuclear industry’s power capacity with 10 power plants and 17 reactors—located in Illinois, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey —and produces enough electricity to power 17 million average American homes annually. Approximately 92% of Exelon’s total electricity generation is nuclear power.

I'm not wild about ComEd and don't have any vested interest, it's just that I was surprised to see how much Nuclear was being used as I always assumed it was primarily coal-fired plants. They also mention some solar being developed and a few wind farms have popped up west of Chicago so it's nice to see some renewable sources for electricity in the midwest.

Have I jumped the gun?

This plate will ride around on my ICE until December. Then it will be transferred to my LEAF.

Am I too into this car? I'm beginning to think so.
