Does anyone have a smart phone mount they can recommend for the leaf? I'm not too picky, but would probably prefer one that attaches low rather than a suction mount for the windshield.

Search is your friend! There are several threads that already answer this.

This is my recommendation from within one of those threads: http://mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=18202&p=393472#p393472

Many of the mounts in the above thread are no longer available. Also, I'd prefer not to have any of these:
- magnetic mounts - Why would I that? Won't that completely make the compass in the phone useless/way off?
- permanent adhesives - They may not stick permanently anyway and leave gunk behind when they stop working. It eventually gets up 100 F in the summer here. Car can sometimes be parked out in the hot sun at those temps.
- vent and CD slot mounts - They weren't designed to hold phones in the first place. I'm concerned the vent or CD player will be damaged.

Cwerdna,

Take another look at my recommendations in the referenced thread. I have used the weatherproof super strong 3M tape for many applications on personal and office vehicles in the extreme temperatures in Arizona (from parking in the sun in July in Phoenix to extreme winter conditions in January in the high country). Glass-mount VHF, CB, and cellular antennas are probably the most severe tests of adhesive because the outside portions are exposed to weather and high-pressure car wash nozzles.

I ended up getting an iOttie. It's got a suction cup mount that works on curved section of the leaf dashboard between the steering wheel and vents. I'm pleased so far.

If you want something lower i've used a cup holder mount before. (Not this one but similar)

The link I gave goes to my report on the iOttie One-Touch XL, which is both still available and avoids all the items you'd prefer not to have. :)

In fact, my LEAF still looks like the picture I posted, with the iOttie sitting to the left of the steering wheel, with the phone mounted just near the steering wheel. The difference is I've since replaced the mount with a One-Touch 2 (since the LG G4 was larger than the LG G2 I previously had).

I've had reasonable success with the sticky suction cup style of mount. They are not permanent and they've never damaged the dash in the 4 cars we have them in. I have had them fall off the dash in extreme heat or cold a few times; usually they will just go right back on. My oldest iOttie stopped being sticky enough after 3 years and 2 cars and I considered a loss. My newest iOttie came with a extra replacement sticky pad so I suspect I'm not the only one who had this problem.

Old picture of One-Touch XL (now using OneTouch 2):

Thanks. I did order that along with https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B012I6A6E8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1.

I haven't used the former (Mediabridge one) much yet but I can safely the long neck Cellet one is NOT a good one for the Leaf.

On that Cellet long neck one, the lower part of the arm can only extend straight up and the angle can't be adjusted nor can its height. Due to the placement of the cupholders vs. the lower part of the center console, it will bump into and rub against the console. Over time, it will definitely scratch or mar the shiny black plastic of the console. Oh well.

I need to give it a shot in my Prius or I will need to look into returning it (if I can and/or if it's worth it) or try selling it at my work, at a slight loss.

Surprised no one has found these http://www.proclipusa.com. They make two different mounts for most modern cars, and a mount for just about any device, including versions with built in charging/AV plugs that can be plugged in or hard wired. They also have a magnetic mounting system if that's your style.

They have two different mount options for the LEAF

I highly recommend adding their move-clip system http://www.proclipusa.com/accessories/move-clip-system/move-clip-system-accessories.aspx. It allows you to move the same holder (non wired of course) between cars, or mount different devices in the same spot. Have two in my Magnum one for GPS and one for phone and I can swap them or move the holders to other vehicles.

Not the cheapest option out there but most clip into place with no adhesive or have a strip to help keep it in place. I just ordered the top one for my new (to me) 2013 SV and the move-clip for my phone holder.

I don't want my device blocking the vent, which is why I've never consider vent-mounted options.

Not noticeable. I thought the same but wanted to give it a shot because of mounting locations in my other cars. I actually prefer it now due to cold air keeping the phone cool when using it for directions and the screen stays on. My phone gets really hot and can shut off if it becomes too hot.

I went ahead and bought two both under $9 free shipping from eBay.

One is a cup holder mount with a gooseneck in a cell phone holder. Like the one suggested but cheaper.

Second one has sticky mount. It sticks side of console, passenger side with adjustable extension, which goes to cell phone holder.

EDIT: I bought both and they BOTH are GREAT! The one with the side vacuum cup is also sticky and I am impressed how well it holds. The cup holer one works great and cheap. SEE PICS BELOW. :D
