I have an extra charger out of a factory 2011 model and would like to be able to incorporate into a 2011 car to double the charging to 6 KW. Has anyone performed this upgrade? Can It be put in parallel?

Thanks, Jim

Do you have a Level 3 connection?

This is 12kW version, it'll charge the LEAF in 2 Hours

This one is $900 and will charge the LEAF in one Hour!

It is theoretically possible and people have done it with after-market chargers such as the Brusa, but I am not aware of anyone who has done it with the Nissan OEM charger...

Most likely not possible with the stock charger, due to both sending the same CAN messages at the same time. Link to the Brusa in my sig.

I'm very interested in replacing the OEM charger.
6kW is fairly sad. It's even worse on the Volt, with it's 3.3kW charger.

There's no reason the Leaf (or any BEV) shouldn't have at least a .5C charger. I've seen mentions of a 22kW (.9C) Brusa charger, but how practical would it be to install? I assume it's not as simple as a few relays/wires like an EVSEUpgrade would be.

I know it wouldn't be cheap, but even at $2-3k, it's cutting typical charge time from 4 hours to 1 hour. Those savings add up, especially in scenarios where you're on the road a lot. Not everywhere has Chademo, and I foresee 70/80A J1772's popping up much faster/sooner than 50kW Chademo stations.

The 22kW Brusa is 3 phase only and not available in America (60hz) markets. It will most likely not be $2-3k. That's what I paid to go from 3.8 kW to 7.2 kW and the Brusa I bought was from a bankruptcy auction ($1,100 for the charger alone- they retailed for $3k when they came out).

Also, all the Brusa upgrade stuff was done on 2011-2012 models which had sufficient space under the hood for a Brusa and also had a BMS that is more or less ok with additional current being injected during charging. The 2013+ cars have a much "tighter" control of charge current for balancing. It would be like starting all over.

But that's not the only option.
12kW with universal input for $1999 and 25kW with 240V input for $2599 from emotorworks.

These are chargers which, in theory, could be off-board or on-board. It sounds like the OP already has a charger they would like mounted on-board connected in parallel to the existing charger. This should be possible, but is beyond my level of expertise.

The $900 just buys you the cable and CHAdeMO connector. You would still need need a charger to connect this to as well as having a CHAdeMO port on your car.

is a brusa the only way to up the charge rate of a 2012 leaf with NO chademo?

ie even just getting to 6.6kw would be huge :)
