Today I went the NJ EZPASS Customer center and returned my regular white EZPASS tags and got two GREEN EZPASS TAGS because my LEAF and my Wife's PRIUS C fall under the NJ GREEN program. Your Vehicle needs to get 45MPG or Better and you are charged discounted tolls on all Major highways in NJ.

Green Pass Discount Plan (Tag specific)
Enrolled E-ZPass customers will receive a discount off the full fare off-peak toll on the New Jersey Turnpike and Garden State Parkway. Vehicles that obtain at least 45 miles per gallon and meet the California Super Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (SULEV) standard are eligible for the discount. To enroll in the plan the customer must submit a request in writing along with proof of eligibility (a copy of vehicle registration) to

I was told that NY does have a program but you won't get a Green discount in NJ. Same as me. My NJ Green tags won't give a discount in NY state. Both states have different green programs. Isn't that stupid?

I don't know the answer. If a NJ registered car can get NY Green EZPASS Tags.
they are not NY ezpass tags, they are PORT OF NEW YORK AND NEW JERSEY ezpass tags which are issued and serviced by the NY service center.
thanks for trying

Thanks for trying what?

Now this is TOO COOL!!!
My EZ Pass account is through the State of Pennsylvania, and a quick call confirmed they do NOT have anything like this.

So I called NJ as soon as I read this.
They said, and I quote;

" We don't care what State the vehicle is registered in"

However, they wanted to see a copy of the registration, etc. to "see if the Vehicle qualifies"

??? They don't have ... like .. a list?
Anyway....................

So, an hour later I faxed in my application, copy of the Title, Copy of the Reg, and a cover letter to NJEzpass.
(Felt like I was dealing with the IRS again  )

This is kinda cool, and I'm excited.
It's an admission by a State government that we are special.
I think it should be only for EV's and PI Hybrid's (and then only grudgingly)

So, we will wait and see. Don't even care if I get discount tolls or not.
Although I do cross to NJ to shop at the Kohls with the Level II's just to support them, so maybe.

NJ already gives a few perks to EV owners, no sales taxes on new purchases, no inspections, "E" license plates and now the EZ pass discounts.

Kohl's, Mantua, NJ

They have 2. They are Blink's
If you have not done so, checkout PLUGSHARE.com

You will be amazed where there are chargers and EVSE.

We have a Kohls about 5 minutes away, But I drive over to this one because I like that they have the L2 EVSE's

With my installed Brusa Charger, I get a pretty fair charge while I'm shopping.

Next time I'm in South Jersey I will surely charge there. It's nice of you to cross state lines just to support retail charging stations. The number one excuse retailers give for not installing stations is that no one uses them. You are helping to prove them wrong.

OK!

Finally got my Green NJEZPASS Yesterday (6/9)
I've been working on it since April 29!!!!

Wow, now that is one un-accommodating Un-friendly little bureaucracy they have there.

There is basically NO WAY to apply for a Green Tag.
I tried everything (Seriously, everything)

I finally did what the OP did; Applied online for an account, and when the tag came, drove over to the Camden EZPass Service Center, and switched the Transponders for green.

Even that was a frigging nightmare.

Car is in the Wife's Name; EZPASS account is in the wife's name.

Now, at the Service Center:
I HAVE the transponder I want to switch.
I Have the Car with me.
I have the Title, and Registration with me.
I have the Insurance Card, with MY Name on it.
I Have the passwords to the account.
I have, in my pocket, the phone that is listed on the account (Call It!)
Last Name is the Same.
Address on Drivers License is the Same.

You know what they accepted as proof of my identity;
"The ONLY way you can do this is to have your wife write us a letter, or call the service center and add you to the account"
(BTW, it cannot be done online.)

I drove to the limits of my charge getting there, and was not doing it again.
So I did what every pissed off EV driver would have done;
Called the service center from outside in a falsetto voice, and added myself to the account.
Ridiculous, but there you go..

Final FU was as I left, I was informed that the new tag should be in the system within 48 Hours....so I had to pay cash to get back home.

Still, I have my green tag, and I'm pretty happy about that.

damn. I did not know about this (Not fond of ezpass)

my metro nets 62mpg yearly average and of course my new leaf qualifies too :)

Congrats!

Sorry for the last response, this is the first time I'm back at this post in 2 years!

Sal
