Lasareath, the software will help you isolate which 1-min clip the event occurred on but it does not do video editing. For editing like you described the best results will be with a dedicated editor, such as Quicktime Player (Pro).

John I found this piece of software to trim off a section of the 1 minute clips.

My unit draws around .06A (60MA) with the display timed off and about .18A (180MA) with the display active. This means that it is unlikely to drain the 12V battery even if left on parked for several days.

Thanks Glenn!

Do these cameras include audio recording?

Can you really use it to contest a ticket or a police officer's behavior? I believe some states make it illegal to record police activities.

Yes. You can record audio.

In most states you only have to tell people they are being recorded if you are recording audio.

The camera records my GPS position and speed. If I get a ticket for doing 45MPH and the entire video through that particular town shows me doing 35mph then who is lying ? The GPS or the Cop? The judge can decide that.

For what it's worth, there is a newer version of this cam 0803, which has great reviews. Since my dashcam is having issues, I just ordered one of these, to hold me over until the better quality dual channel units come out later this year.

Thanks for the update. Eventually I'd like to install a few more. Capture all four sides.

Same here, I actually bought a 808 #16 (very cheap and popular), which supports extending the lens wiring up to 30". Hoping to mount the lens, and hide the the rest of the cameras in the ceiling somehow.

Yesterday I noticed the camera wasn't recording. After further investigating the tiwainenesse SDHC memory card was dead. So I just bought a new SanDisk 32GB SDHC 10X card for $19 shipped on eBay.

I'll add my experience. I installed a DoD ls460w (has excellent night time vision - better than mine) but was very disappointed when it arrived. It was dramatically out of focus. Since I had to import it from the UK, returning it would be a PITA so I decided to fix it. Not so easy. I found some instructions on opening the case of a 430 and that worked but they cemented the lens in place so it took some dremeling, solvent, and gentle prying to finally get the lens to turn so I could focus it. Took about a 1/8th turn and now it looks great but I doubt I would have bought it had I known what it was going to take to make it work. After the fact, I learned that this is a common complaint with their products. DoD is now on my list of manufacturers to avoid. C'mon, if you aren't going to focus it properly, don't cement it in place!

I had a G1W (1080p, 30fps) dash cam on my Leaf. It captured a tree falling on my Leaf this past Tuesday.

For how much it costs, I think the G1W is great; the video quality exceeded my expectations. You can spend $10 more and get a G1W-C (no battery, capacity version) that works better in super hot climates. I highly recommend it.
