Greetings to all

I've a used 2015 's'
since I've bought it, I didn't hear the starting chime except once when I was trying to connect an OBDII wifi to it
I've tried to reset the front dashboard settings and changing the effects
Also when I put the car in reverse there is no beeping sound

and I have no idea if the VSP is working or not

I've had my local Nissan agent check the car before I bought it and they told me there is a problem in "Revers speaker" !! they said they don't have the part currently and when I've asked for its number they've refused to give it to me :|

The VSP unit is working if the VSP light indicator on the center console-dash is off. (edit: The service manual says that the light comes on and stays on if there's a fault in the system, like for example someone disconnecting the speaker.

Beware, that some cars ship disabled from the factory (probably not yours)... see article below.

It's possible that the previous owner unplugged the VSP unit (Digital Sound Communication Controller Module 285N6-3NF1B) This will turn off the start-up sound as well.

Check to see if it's unplugged. To plug it back in see this video. At the end of the video, simply plug in the white connector. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RHWT8VqnRGo

"every car entering the U.K. from Nissan... is required to have its standard reverse warning beeper removed before it can be delivered." read more http://www.greencarreports.com/news/1056100_to-sound-or-not-to-sound-nissan-removes-beeper-from-u-k-leaf
Further possibilities:

1. VSP speaker part number 28152 3na0a (right below the 12V lead battery) is unplugged and startup sound is disabled thru the instrument gauge menu.

2. VSP unit or speaker pins of the VSP unit is unplugged. Tip: disconnecting the speaker may show some error codes, but not always.

If the speaker unplugs then there's no backup sound. See these pictures for reference http://www.ebay.com/itm/2015-Nissan-Leaf-speaker-sound-audio-28152-3na0a-/302187332790?hash=item465bc4c4b6:g:qiQAAOSw9GhYbTz9

Beware that there is a DIY in this forum where a relay is tied to the speaker wire and to the backup light, This disables only the backup sound yet nothing else is affected.

i want to disable the speaker on my car too. thanks for the directions to find it. I like the other chimes so I'll setup a switch.

On my 2013, I push this button and the sounds stops. :D

It's the fat button on the center console, where the picture of the little car is.

You really don't want to disable the speaker since it could throw an error code and/or disable other chimes too. What you want is to put an aftermarket switch on the center console button like what I did. It doesn't disable the speaker. It disable the back-up/forward sound file only. This way, the passenger can turn it off, yet easy to see or reach by everyone in the car.

This is what the LEAF designers had in mind until the mandate stopped them. :|

Decimus,

Don't tease us. Please share how you did this. i even went out to look at my car and i have the very same icon in my 2012 that I've never noticed before. Well, I think I've noticed but since it wasn't a button I could press I ignore it.

Sure, I'd be happy to share how I did this. You'll need an aftermarket switch or some home made switch for this button to work.

I made a new post in the Mod category with step by step instructions. Here is the link to the tutorial. http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=3296&p=486390#p486390
