Having had the Leaf for a year, I want to change the cabin filter. I did a search and found the thread showing how to do it (http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?t=13113&f=27" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) and what a PITA the clip is. So I bought the Nissan Cube filter and got ready to get some work done.

When I removed the cover from the glove box, I can't find the white cover. In fact, mine doesn't look anything like the pictures:

Anyone know where they hid the cabin filter in the 2014's?

Thanks!

I think the post said that they are now black. here is the quote

Your post said on the 2013 the ice cube tray clip is black and not white. That's totally correct! Thank you. I've found it. It turns out one has to stick one's head under glove-compartment base to find it. The opening slot size is about half the width of the filter. The filter is an accordion style. It must be squeezed in half, width-wise to put it in the slot. The whole replacement procedure takes about 5 minutes. The design of the filter location is very questionable.
An

this is for a 11 or 12 but the location should be the same.

I got my first 12 month battery check and tire rotation yesterday ($10 for the rotation). But I opted out of the filter because they said it would be about $100. I plan to do it myself, but is it even recommended yet at 12 months?

I think they do recommend 1 yr/12 months. Some say that's too often. Here in NC we get lots of pollen in spring and I change them out about 1/yr. I tried 18months in my other car and it was very dirty.

The Leaf gets more daily driving than the others.

The filter cost around $8. On eBay, first install takes around 30 minutes after that it will go faster. Make sure you add the string on that white cap to get to it faster.

Ok, done! For the 2014, forget the glove compartment, just do it from the bottom. Filter cover is black and just like the white one. Was easy to get off - no broken clips. Lots of bugs and stuff in, glad I did it in 12 months.

Put the bottom cover back on and all set for another year. Time to reset the maintenance minder!

Anyone think rinsing this filter, letting it dry thoroughly, and reinstalling is a good idea? My 2004 Prius had a cabin filter that I did this to and seemed to get good results. I replaced it completely only twice in the 140,000 miles. no ill effects. Or will the comments be "it's only 9 bucks you cheapskate", haha.

Thanks

Don't need to wash it, just hit it with pressurized air, and that will clean it out to about 95% original flow capacity. I do that on mine, and only replace them every 30K miles.

Oh and don't fall for the time based replacement scheme, its a 15,000 mile replacement item regardless of time.
