Bought a Nissan leaf that was involved in an accident, and was wondering how to bring the car back to life after the emergency shut off system has been activated ? I have downloaded the emergency rescue guide PDF from Nissan but this document only deals with disconnection, not reconnection, any advice would be welcome.

Just reverse the steps.

:D Thanks, I did have the same thought in mind, but felt I should check as that sounded too easy. the accident damage is only to the front bumper and the charging port compartment, unfortunately it set two air bags off, I'm hoping the replacement cost won't be too much.

 I figured that you would have already tried that and for some reason it didn't work... You'll get a dummy light due to the air bags being deployed, but I can't think of any other issues you would have...

Collecting the car on Monday from the auction site, so will try reactivation later, only other problem is the vehicle is without keys, I have a locksmith coming who has ordered new keys and will also reprogram the car.

Unless the locksmith has Nissan's Consult III software, he won't be able to reprogram the key fobs to work with the car. I know, because I lost one of my keys several weeks ago, and parts and labor came to $275

Older Nissans that still have a keyed ignition have a procedure that does not require the computer. But the Leaf is 100% proximity sensor locking/unlocking/power switch. The only keyed lock on the entire car is on the driver's door handle, so you can still unlock the car in case the 12 volt battery is depleted.

The locksmith is an auto specialist and knows the setup on the leaf, he has told me that he received two codes from Nissan that he needs to input before reprogramming the new keys, the guy seems very knowledgeable and will only charge me when the job is complete, didn't even have to pay an advance on the 2 keys he ordered.

The car was put up for sale by the insurance company through an insurance write off auction specialist, I would rather not discuss the price I paid, but it was below 10,000 pounds.

Sick man (Californian for "good work"), enjoy!

Had the car transported to my friend's place where I can make some repairs, the 12 volt battery was completely dead, so we used one from another car, and the system came to life, and more good news when I found the key under a crisp packet on the driver's seat, call the locksmith anyway as I wanted a second key, he had difficulties logging into the system to update the new codes and in the end gave up, he will contact me once he gets to the bottom of the problem, can't say I was too disappointed because I had found a key and the car was working, after some repairs to the damage, no new parts just repairing what was there, it doesn't look perfect and you can see the Scars, but I'm happy enough, so the next day I planned to take the car on a long run of about 150 miles, I will start a new thread and talk about that journey as I had range and charging issues.

Hi,
I have just the same problem as your - my leaf is after an accident with airbags deployed. Now it's already fixed, but the emergency shut off system is activated and I cannot charge or drive the car. Could you please tell me how exactly you deactivated the emergency shut off system and made the car driveable again? Thanks a lot.

You might want to PM the OP, since he hasn't visited the forum since November 2013. From what I can tell in his posts to this thread, all he did was fit a new 12v battery.

Thanks. I just did that. Sadly for me even unplugging the 12V battery for several days didn't do anything. I wonder what might it be and how should I deactivate the emergency shut off without visiting the Nissan dealer..

Safe to assume that it's a good healthy battery?

Your other post about resetting the DTCs using LEAF Spy Pro sounds like a good next step. Android phone; suitable ELM327; and the app would be all that it would take. Cost around these parts would be around $55 all-in.

Where exactly are you...is it possible somebody who already has this setup local to you could help you out?

Yes, the battery shows 22 miles left with all health bars present. However since the accident it's not charging, but the charge stays the same for couple of months already.

I already have both ELM327 B and and android phone, so hopefully I will be able to test it soon. However since the car is currently in another city, I have to specially drive there. My brother who is fixing the car invited two computer specialists who work a little with other cars computers, they connected to LEAF, saw error codes, but when tried to go deeper and reset them, were blocked for some reason (I don't think they have a special programme for Nissan, but it works with other cars). I wonder if LeafSpy would be different with these DTCs and if it's powerful enough to reset them. I didn't buy it yet (just the lite version), so was wondering if it's good enough for such situation...
