My 2012 does not seem to have a light in the glove box the photo is where I think the light should be it is just a hole
In addition, the second photo is the panel on the left inside the glove box it looked like it has a handle but there is a sticky type tape inside the handle any ideas

The hole in the second photo is where the light belongs. The door in the first photo is where you access the cabin air filter. That said, I accidentally pushed against the light in mine with "very" little pressure and popped the light out. Pull the glove box liner and the light may be sitting there.

Mine is a 2011 and definitely has the light... I wonder if they tried to save 10 cents in the 2012s by eliminating it... If so, how foolish!

Is yours a 2011 or 2012?

+1 to both of Tom's points.

While I was checking mine out, I got to wondering whether the glovebox light is turned off by closing the glovebox door or whether it is always on when the headlights are on. Being an EV and hopefully designed to not waste any energy, I would have assumed that there would be on off switch connected to the door mechanism, but I couldn't find the usual microswitch anywhere. I realize that this is a negligible amount of energy, but just wondering whether Nissan bothered to include an off switch or not. I tried closing the glovebox carefully and slowly, and the light remained lit until the glovebox was closed and I couldn't see in there any longer.

Hey, it's a slow news period, and since when have we ignored an opportunity to obsess about the smallest details?

Reading this thread, I had to go out to the garage and check my 2012 Leaf. It does not have a light. They must have saved at least 1 OZ eliminating the lamp!

For Boomer -

Get yourself a small photo-electric cell, wire it up in a lamp circuit, stick the cell in the glove box and close it. What happens to the outboard lamp?

Hey, you said it - a slow news period.

And equally bad, they left the cutout to make it even that more obvious! Even the new Versa has a glove box light in the high-end model! Nissan should be ashamed of themselves!

I dont think it is that small of a deal if you buy a car for $40K+ you do not expect the car to have missing parts I think it is disgraceful that Nissan did not even try to conceal this

Agreed. It is disgraceful for Nissan to eliminate something that inexpensive to save a few cents (or bucks, even). I was just commenting about whether they included a switch in the 2011s.

Cheers, Brightonuk.

OK so now I need a way to fix what they screwed up someone said to add a light but the issue is the wiring and a doubt that anyone has needed to even look at this

and without a 2011 in Florida I guess is is dead before it even starts unless Ingineer has dismantled the glove box

Huh? Glove box light? I don't have one in my 2011 SL. I have a white plastic insert in that hole shown in the OP photo. Could it have been something that Nissan dropped post-tsunami? (Possibly a parts supply problem.) Does anybody with a VIN > 1000 have one?

No, no. I was not suggesting that a glove box light be added. I just offered a Rube Goldberg type solution to answer Boomer's question about the 2011 light turning off - use a photo electric cell and an outboard light.

I have a glove box light - but it is only on if parking or headlights are on.

I just checked my glove box and no light but it does have the cut-out hole. I'll mosey over to the dealer this Saturday and tell them that I found "a defect" and see what they say.

Yer great idea Im gonna do the same maybe if everyone who got a 2012 (and I am assuming none of us got the light we all take our motors back to the dealer and say it is missing a light (I give 1000 to 1 the dealer has no bloody idea) but they will need to contact somone at Nissan and we make a point
