The bill is in the senate, may or may not pass, it would make electric cars registration almost double, from $213 to about $350, in washington state, it will tax bicycles, and auto parts and accessories, raise taxes on fuel, and impose taxes on on many other thins, Natural gas and electricity, at this point ethe nissan leaf is almost as expensive to drive as a prius if you add the depreciation of the car, with these new fees it would make the leaf not a good buy? is the law about the environment or about taxing the heck out of washingtonians?

Hahaha you think your government cares about your best interests or about the environment.

Yeah well they seem like looking for anyway possible to tax, gas has been so low for almost 4 years now if you keep in mind inflation, now with all these fees electric cars and plug ins will be as expensive to drive as a normal car.

They don't want you saving a bunch of money.
If people aren't in debt and have a bunch of money laying around then the government isn't doing its job.

You actually think that the government "cares" about people? All the current government cares is about getting more votes and initiating endless laws to get more taxes and control its citizens..

What a bunch of lame comments.

The problem is that the state of Washington does not have any income tax. How does government provide services without taxes. The comments here are just ridiculous. Actually the state government in Washington is pretty darn good. The fact that the people of Washington will not vote for a state income tax is the real problem.

Texas doesn't have state income tax and they do fine. They replace a good portion of that lost state income with abnormally high property taxes. IMO their property tax is around double that of a state where the states collect income tax as I saw in Virginia where I lived for 20 years and as I see now that I'm in new mexico.
Why would people in some where like texas want to pay double property tax and income tax?

The problem is that most population in WA are also subject to very high sales tax (over 10%).

Our state government has became increasingly hostile to EV/PHEV owners over the past few years.

Texas is a bad example has it highest one the highest levels of income from the Feds.

Then there's Florida. No income tax and relatively low property tax, but expect to get bent over if you rent a car or stay in a hotel. Plus we have a great new conservative governor who's finally taking on some environmental issues, got rid of the water management cronies. We really dodged a bullet in November, almost got taken over by a socialist.

Don't think of moving here though, we're expecting to run out of water by 2030 so no new people can move into the state.
