Greetings,

I am looking at my third Leaf, a 2013 SV with 64K miles; it's down to 10 bars. I plan to take my OBD2 dongle and check the SOH. Any idea what SOH % I should look for?

I'm in Portland, Oregon, and the car is from the Seattle area, so heat is not an issue.

I had a 2015. Three months after I bought it, a client declared bankruptcy and I had to reshuffle vehicles. After 8 months, I'm getting back into the EV. The 2015 SL had all bars and 95% SOH. Locally driven. Wish I'd kept it, but $28K was missing in the budget.

Thanks, and it's good to be (almost) back.

Curious why you are buying in Seattle, did you find a super cheap LEAF there?

Personally, I think this 12 bar 2014 SV is worth the extra $:

Carfax shows it's a WA car, which is ideal...

A 10 bar 2013 Leaf is almost certainly an early build (before April of 2013) and if so will have the fast-degrading battery chemistry of the 2011 and 2012 cars. It will continue to degrade faster than later builds. Avoid it unless dirt cheap and your range needs don't exceed 30 miles.

Yeah, a 10 bar '13 Leaf w/64K miles from the Seattle area isn't impressive.

My used 5/2013 built '13 Leaf w/~63.5K miles still has 11 bars and SOH fluctuating around 82.xx% to 83.xx%, mostly. Has seen 84.xx% again in the past month or so. I'm in a much hotter climate than the Seattle area and my car was serviced in the South Bay (Santa Clara, CA) by the previous driver. I bought it in July 2015 w/under 24K miles on it.

This. +1

Car is now in Portland but was purchased/driven in Bellevue.

Thank you LeftieBiker, your advice in Feb 2018 on a car purchase / battery health query was spot on except you forgot to tell me not to be an idiot and let the car go. :) I'll get the manufacture date.

Yes, I know ;) That was why I mentioned that car to you, as you mentioned you live in Portland. If the price is right, then it saves you considerable headache.

Headache or heartache. I wish I'd kept my 2015 SL, which the new owner now drives around Vancouver Island. But a client's bankruptcy changed my finances, and I needed a truck. Couldn't swing both, or at least that's what I thought.

This one is an 11 bar, might be worth checking out as the price is decent:

It was listed at Subaru of Portland, not Platt.
Right, the one I was looking at was at Platt.

A year ago, I was up on this stuff. Now I'm foggy on the details, so I appreciate the forum and the leads. I just saw the latest post from you. I drove to Eugene today and back on unrelated business.

Thank you.
