I'm trying to decide on all weather tires to put on my 2014 leaf S... 16 inch wheels.
Note I am not considering all season tires.

On my Teslas I get separate winter tires with rims as for a Tesla I typically drive over 12k miles per year so they are limited by miles not age.
However for our leaf these days we typically just drive it 5k miles per year since moving to Colorado so I'm looking to replace our oem all season tires with all weather tires (using two sets of tires is less economic when not driving far due to the tires aging out).

I was intending to go nokian wr g3 tires given the reviews in general are good. However a few things are making me rethink.
* Nokian released wr g4 tires so I expect these to be better.
* The wr g4s now have optional run flat. I like the idea of run flats but don't like the idea of a rough ride. Does anyone know how well run flats go on the leaf?
* Michelin has released crossclimate+... Apparently only in 3 sizes but this includes the standard leaf size. Consumer reports ranks these above the nokians https://www.consumerreports.org/tires/new-tire-ratings-reveal-top-tires/
They are available at tirerack who calls them all season and says they are good for light snow. Shrug. I suspect tirerack just doesn't recognize all weather tires

Any opinions on what to get? I would naturally get the nokians wr g4 without run flat but the consumer reports may tilt me to Michelin if I can trust it.

I'm writing a message here so that I get a notification when there's an answer ; I'd like to know the same thing for when I get a new car. Brussels is rainy as hell, so I'll need the best all weather tires available ; I already had an accident (a benign one, but it could have been much worse) because of bad tires on a wet road, so I'd rather avoid these kinds of issues, especially now that I have kids.

We are using Toyo Celsius 4 season Winter tires on our Prius PHEV. Aside from not returning to center all that well, they seem to perform well in snow and rain.

Wonder what you choose. I am looking at separate winter tires and rim AND those bloody TPMS at $60 each. Cheapest would be X-ice tire package $1186 !!!

Throw on a set of all weather for $600 and use existing TPMS and rims.

We don't use the leaf to go in the deep deep stuff but nice to have when we get 3-6 inches on the ground so seems like these would be great.

We just changed to x-ice and I bought the programmable TPMS sensors and reprogrammed them myself.

I bought these

The tires and sensors and programmer was $700, but I already had old steel wheels

This is the thread on how it works

However if you run temps above 40F or 4C I wouldn't recommend snows as they will wear really fast and be quite mushy, then I would go with an all season, I have used the Nokian WR's in the past and really liked them.

"All weather" is a recently concocted term. If you look at TireRack's videos for the CrossClimate, they do note that it wasn't the best performer in all snow/ice conditions as compared to other "all weather" tires like the Goodyear or even the Pirelli which doesn't have the "mountain and snowflake" symbol on it:

Temps here in the Northeast often get above 40F, and that has little effect on snow tire wear. You have to run them at temps above about 70F, for substantial lengths of time, to get noticeable accelerated wear. Handling still worsens at lower temps than 70.

I guess I should have qualified that with they get mushy handling wise as the temps go up. And they actually have worse handling at 70F then all season or summer tires, as the name suggests they are winter tires.
