To make a long story short I have a 2011 Leaf with only 6 bars left. I'm looking at replacing the battery pack from a 2013 Leaf. I called my dealership who is going to do the installation, he said they can't guarantee that the 2013 battery pack will fit my 2011 Leaf. And if it didn't fit then I would have to pay them again to take it off and put on the existing battery.

My understanding is that they will fit but need an adapter. If anyone would know this it should be the dealership. Should I talk to a different a different person or try a different dealership?

'11 and '12 Leafs required a kit for the '15 lizard batteries to fit: http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?t=17168.

Don't recall about '13 packs. IIRC, '13+ packs have 1 less temp sensor than previous ones. Cor's posts in http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=21997 might have more details, if you only look for posts by him.

Needs the kit, then the VCM reprogramming.

Seems to me I recall some DIY types were able to swap the pack control module from old to new, and avoid having the VCM reprogrammed, but I don't remember the particulars, A dealership wouldn't be interested in doing that for you anyhow.

OP: I think you are asking for trouble.
I suggest instead that you buy a used pack that matches the current generation that Nissan is using in its warranty or retail replacements. That way the dealership will have detailed instructions to use.

That might be a good idea. I'll have to call the dealer and ask for details.

I concur that the dealer should know before undertaking the job - they have access to much more info than we do. It sounds like they are trying to set up a half-hearted install that they will then claim doesn't work so they can bill you to undo it. I would be very wary of proceeding.

Agreed!
