Hi all, I currently have a 30kWh Leaf and have been considering upgrading to the 40kWh model while the WA state sales tax exemption lasts, and I have a question about the Cold Weather Package. Namely, Nissan claims that it includes "Rear Heater Ducts", but I don't recall seeing any vents to the back seats in any of my test drives. My kids are always asking for more cold or hot air to be directed to the back seats, so if that is part of the package it would be a big selling point for my family. Could someone with firsthand experience explain what actually exists in the car?

Thanks!

I own a 2018 SV with the cold weather package. I searched and searched for the back seat ducts. What I found is that the front seat floor covers had a raised tunnel at the front seats which vented under the front seats. I haven't asked at a dealership to confirm, but that's my guess. No time now, but I'll see if I can post a pic of some kind. I also haven't experimented to see if they function that way. Come to think of it, perhaps that's what I should do tomorrow it will be easier.

Edit: I turned on the fan and selected the mode which channels to the foot area. I can absolutely feel the air moving out to the vents at the front of the front seats pointing toward the back seats. When I put my hand in the back seat foot area just behind the rear of the front seats (and use my imagination ;) ) I can feel some air movement. I've got to think that's it. I also hope that the effect is more noticeable when the weather is cold and the heat pump is really heating.

So, I ended up buying a new 2018 Leaf with the Cold-Weather package this weekend, and spent a while with the dealer trying to figure this out. The Leaf specialist at the Nissan dealership I went to had no clue what I was asking about at first, but I showed him the feature listed on the window sticker and we spent a while looking under the seats. It appears the answer is that there are openings under the front seats (near the front of the seat), and warm or cool air is vented out of those, though not very strongly even with the fan on full blast. The 2017 SV Leaf I traded in for the 2018 model actually has the exact same vents, though I had never noticed that before.

My 1967 Volvo 122S had a plastic duct that ran along the top of the transmission tunnel and terminated in two vents behind the front seats, one on each side of the tunnel. This isn't exactly new tech, so Nissan is just being cheap, as usual.
