Looking to possibly lease a Leaf. I am in Atlanta and trying to get some guidance/advice from folks. I currently have a lease offer on the table for a SL model as follows:

39 Month
1st Month Down
12,000 per Year
289 plus Tax
********************************************
24 Month Lease
1st Month Down
12,000 Miles per Year
305 plus Tax

That is based off of a 30000 purchase price for a SL.

What do folks think?

Thanks

It depends on when you want to replace this 2012 LEAF with a newer model, manufactured in the US (either a LEAF or something else). In either case you will qualify for the $5000 Georgia State Income Tax credit which can be applied to your tax liability for up to five years. You will qualify for the full tax credit amount whether you lease the vehicle for two years or the three years plus. I would advise that you do this ASAP as the Georgia Legislature considered legislation in the 2012 session that would have terminated the tax credit on light duty vehicles like the LEAF and moved the tax credit to medium duty natural gas fueled trucks. We (the Metro Atlanta EV Readiness Task Force) was successful in stopping the legislation but I can not guarantee that will happen in 2013. Also, you will able to qualify for a "free" ECOtality Blink charging station for your home if you act before the end of January.

My recommendation is to take the 24 month deal which after the Georgia Income Tax Credit works out to less than $100 a month to lease the vehicle for the two years.

Come to the EV Club of the South meetings (3rd Wednesday of each month) at Manuel's Tavern and meet a number of the LEAF owners/lessees. Meetings begin at 6:00 pm. Let me know if you have any questions.
