I don't think it's a good idea to use a strap-on rack on the tailgate, but YMMV.
I would recommend using Bill Davis' Quick Release hitch, and using a hitch-mount rack.

+1 on the hitch thing.

The metal on the Leaf is pretty thin. I think you risk damage with the trunk mounted racks. If anyone has gotten this to work though please let us know.
 
There's a big thread about bike racks for the LEAF that has a number of ideas. Although I concur that the metal (and plastic) on the back of the LEAF is kinda thin for a substantial rack, I've had mine (an Allen Sports MT-1) since 2011 and have taken my sub-20-lb. road bike on literally hundreds of rides on the back of my LEAF. It's also occasionally carried a 30 lb. road bike and a 32 lb. mountain bike.

I DEFINITELY wouldn't recommend a hatch-mounted rack for taking multiple bikes, or any heavy bikes (e-bikes, beach cruisers, etc.).
