Our species, H. Sapiens, did arrive on the earth ~250,000 years ago. All the other species of the genus Homo, older than our species, have NOT survived.

"we"? I suspect that if "humans" continue to exist 250,000 years from now, and if they are "very different" from us, they will not be "we". They will be a new species that has evolved from us, and our species will have gone the way of the Cro-Magnons, the Neanderthals, etc.
