Saturday at Sundance Elio will release their prototype 4, which should be pretty close to what it will look like when it goes into production. This is the picture of what its supposed to look like. What do you guys think about a 55 hp 1200 pound car. Can it still be pretty quick and safe. http://imgur.com/3YXzjWy" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

No actual photos of the latest prototype? That looks like crude computer graphics...

My main interest in this car is the potential for swapping in an electric motor and some battery modules from something other than a Nissan.

They released the pictures today of the new prototype. it looks pretty cool and very aerodynamic. link:

difference is one of them will actually go into production and the other was bs from the start to get your money.

They botched the front wheel/fender design. It looks just like they removed wheels from inside those fenders, and extended them, in a crude fashion, well outside the car. A bit too "Junkyard Wars" for my taste. It *could* be fixed, though...

I know it has an ice motor.Gets 84mpg reported.Wearder looking then the beloved leaf.

What is everyones thoughts on this car? They have a reported 15k of them sold at $6800 each

Here is one topic on them, anyway:

Not that interesting to me as an ICE vehicle. But, the price is certainly noticeable and may find some traction with Millenials looking to have a small footprint but still need some level of personal transportation.

Cant believe the concensouse sounds like HHuuu. What is that.
Recall that this is a motorcycle, not a car, then review the history of Aptera. Then finish with the understanding this is an EV section of the forum. ;)

Also...

The Aptera died after it was taken over by management from the auto industry. This one starts out with auto- and oil-industry management. Yeah, that'll work... ;)

Leftie, Thanks for this. I reported the post and asked a mod to combine the two topics as they've done in the past. The report was closed but the topics were not combined.

Andy

edit... Drees consolidated/moved. Thanks.

I just saw one in person at the Chandler Mall in Chandler, AZ last Sunday. Got to sit inside of it and everything. But it's still just a prototype, not an actual production car. Slated to roll out summer of 2015.

Hope nobody is still expecting this to become a reality. Starting a new car company must be harder than Barbie doing math.

edit: Looks like a bunch of people may be out their deposits, as much as a grand.

I'm not surprised at all. All they've been doing is building prototypes and collecting reservations. 2 years ago I figured it wasn't going to go anywhere, and it looks like the writing is on the wall.
