Each one will look similar to a standard single-seat, open cockpit Formula 1 car, complete with large wings at the front and back. Details of the engines are still under wraps, but its designers do not think performance will be a problem.

Smartphone chipmaker Qualcomm has signed a sponsorship deal with the forthcoming Formula E championship.

The FIA international motorsports body plans to launch the electric-car competition next year as an alternative to Formula 1.

Qualcomm will provide wireless-charging and augmented-reality technology to help the teams taking part and the public watching the races.

A report, released today (12 November) by leading professional services firm EY, has analysed the global value of the FIA Formula E Championship, revealing that the new zero emission race series will help contribute to the additional sale of 77 million Electric Vehicles (EV) worldwide over the next 25 years (2015–2040).

To be honest I'm not particularly thrilled by the sound, but I think it'll sound a lott better once they have a batt that will allow them to push the car to greater speeds.
