I'm in favor of a more simplistic approach. Forget about all the predictive analysis (which has a large margin for error anyways), and just report an accurate State of Charge percent. With that number, I can mentally calculate all that I need to know. City driving, highway driving, hills, I'm good...

I'm concerned that in the act of trying to make the existing number / algorithm more accurate, it will just get more complex, and it still won't reflect the real world. I vote to keep it simple....SOC, baby!

I haven't followed the whole thread so maybe this has been mentioned.
For SOC why couldn't you split the pack in half and at a stop take the load off of half and measure it. Wouldn't the active half be enough to power the rest of the car systems while stopped? It wouldn't work for continuous driving but should for around the town.
