The company has come up a few times in MNL but they seem like a mystery to me.

Came across this earlier tonight...

Chinese Tesla rival files to raise $1.8 billion in U.S. IPO
https://www.bizjournals.com/sanjose/news/2018/08/13/chinesetesla-rival-files-to-raise-1-8b-in-u-s-ipo.html
Nio Inc., the Chinese electric car company whose U.S. unit is run by former Cisco Systems innovation chief Padmasree Warrior, has filed to raise $1.8 billion in an initial public offering that will trade on the New York Stock Exchange.
...
Nio started selling a sports utility vehicle in China in December at a price tag of about $70,000, before incentives. That is about half what Tesla charges for its Model X in China. Nio doesn't plan to sell vehicles in the U.S. until after establishing itself in its home country. Sales of electric passenger cars in China rose by 72 percent to 578,000 last year, four times the number sold in the U.S.

The electric car maker is based in Shanghai but maintains its U.S. headquarters and software development center in North San Jose,

This company is very real. I've met some of the folks who are working on the project. I've been paying attention to this since they were called nextev. They are having great success in China and it will be interesting to see how they are received in the us when they begin their expansion.

Wow. I'm not sure how this will effect the stock price for sure, but I expect that it will not do well after this loss to the company.

NIO Day 2018

The news of the unveiling of the ES6 vehicle may be what is holding up the stock today. This car is supposed to be about half the price of the ES8. I doubt it is half, but having two cars in their lineup should be good for sales.

Tesla’s Chinese rival NIO has lost $5 billion and is fighting to survive
https://www.latimes.com/business/autos/story/2019-09-23/nio-china-tesla
Tesla Inc. took about 15 years to rack up $5 billion in losses. NIO Inc., the electric-vehicle maker that some see as China’s Tesla, did it in four.

China's 'Tesla Killer' Is Against the Ropes

NIO loses money on every car it sells and will soon need to raise more cash, but it can't lift prices.

I watched this video from CNBC.

It's crazy that they mention that the company has the valuation of Daimler while selling only a minimal number of vehicles. Another bubble like Tesla?

NIO Celebrates Production Of 200,000th Electric Car
The milestone was achieved in less than four years.

https://insideevs.com/news/582200/nio-production-200000-electric-car/

NIO announced that on April 26, the 200,000th electric car rolled off the production line at the JAC-NIO Advanced Manufacturing Centre in Hefei, China.

The jubilee vehicle happens to be the recently introduced NIO ET7 flagship, which noted its first deliveries in March (163 units).

It's a significant milestone for NIO, especially since it took less than four years to produce 200,000 EVs (between May 2018 and April 2022). Not only that, the company accelerates production as close to 100,000 units (or half of all) were produced during the previous 12 months.
During those four years, NIO managed to navigate through many challenges, including the risk of bankruptcy at one point, and launch a total of four electric models - the NIO ES8, NIO ES6, NIO EC6 and the latest NIO ET7.

The plan for the remaining part of 2022 is to launch two additional models - ET5 and ES7, which together with the ET7 are all based on the NT2.0, the NIO's second-generation technology platform.

Significant improvements are promised also to the first three cars: ES8, ES6 and EC6, which in the 2022 model year are expected to receive "the latest digital cockpit hardware."

NIO does not forget the 200,000 first customers and promises the digital cockpit upgrade plan for existing users. . . .

In the latest press release, NIO reassured that this year it intends to launch its products "and comprehensive service system" in several new European countries (Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden and Denmark), on top of Norway, where the NIO ES8 is already available.

One of the most important next steps will be the official start of the NIO's second manufacturing base located at NeoPark, scheduled for Q3 2022.

Nio Owners Can Now Buy Their EVs’ Batteries, Opt Out Of Battery Lease Service

This was apparently prompted by Nio owners who regretted opting for battery-as-a-service and wanted to buy the battery afterward

https://insideevs.com/news/583809/nio-baas-battery-swapping-opt-out/

Nio is known for allowing its buyers to choose whether to buy their EV’s battery pack outright when they purchase the vehicle or spend less up front and pay a recurring fee that grants them access to the manufacturer’s battery swapping stations. This is called battery-as-a-service (BaaS) and until now, those who opted for it could not then choose to opt out by buying the battery.

This has now changed, according to one report from China, after Nio EV owners who regretted going for BaaS asked the manufacturer to allow them to buy the battery afterward, thus completely opting out of battery swapping. China’s Future Auto Daily says it received an official statement from Nio announcing the change, as well as the fact that the group of owners looking to purchase the pack was still small.

Nio is already recommending the purchase of the battery for those buyers who are looking to hold on to their EV for longer than average, which according to Nio means six or seven years. The price to buy the battery is expected to be 70,000 yuan ($10,600) or 128,000 yuan ($19,370) for standard and long range models respectively, plus another 3,000 yuan ($450) service fee.

The same Chinese source says that owners, who have been paying for BaaS for several years, think the option is overpriced, and they should not have to be asked to pay full price. Things currently don’t seem to be completely figured out over on Nio’s end, but since according to the manufacturer, most owners are happy to keep paying for BaaS, this isn’t a major problem yet. . . .
