Jeep Wrangler PHEV Production Inches Forward With New Announcement

. . . The upcoming Jeep Wrangler PHEV, which will be the first plug-in hybrid Jeep when it goes on sale in 2020, will be produced at the Toledo Assembly Complex.

FCA recently announced that a key component – the power electronic module for the Wrangler PHEV – will be produced in-house in its 54-year-old Toledo Machining Plant in Perrysburg, Ohio. . . .

The above quote is from almost a year and a half ago and it's also 2020 now......any new news on the Wrangler PHEV ?

Different from the Pacifica is that the new Jeeps will be four wheel drive.

Pacifica will get the 4 wheel drive option towards the end of this year.

Unfortunately (or should I say surely ;) ) the PHEV Wrangler won't be available on the base(under $30k) models but rather the $40-50k top trim models :(
I'd also hope it has more range than the rather poor quoted Mini PHEVs 18 miles, 30+ would be much more useful IMO.

I just don't know where they'd fit a 16kwh or so pack. On the roof?

Perhaps under the seats (inside the passenger compartment to avoid reduction of ground clearance) at the expense of storage space. I would really be interested in a PHEV Gladiator with an inline 4-cylinder turbo diesel, but it will never happen for USA.

Why a diesel? The electric motors will provide both extra torque at low speeds and increased fuel economy. A diesel ICE would negate any emissions decrease from the EV components.

Higher FE? There was this diesel hybrid: https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1078344_peugeot-3008-hybrid4-diesel-hybrid-first-drive.

You can get higher fuel economy in a number of ways, but they have to be acceptable both to the consumer (as in no jolting shifts in that case) and to environmental standards. You want more power in the Jeep hybrid? Use larger motors. Want higher fuel economy? Use a higher capacity pack - in this case by using higher density batteries and/or lighter materials to require less KWHs... I'll bet that it will lack a real Eco Mode, and that just adding one would raise the FE a lot.
