although panned a few times over the years (Cross Blue Coupe comes to mind), here is yet another possibility for VW's next version of a model that I currently drive (a '13 Touareg VR6 gas, not diesel). Always loved the fit and finish and mid size nature; if it does indeed get a true 31 miles in EV mode it has my vote but we've already seen that these estimates haven't always been close to reality ...

The automaker says that the concept is a plug-in hybrid with a powertrain that produces 376 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque and has a pure-electric range of 31 miles. VW also claims a predicted combined fuel economy of 78 mpg, plus a sprint from 0 to 62 mph in 6.0 seconds on to a top speed of 139 mph.
