Mitsubishi ASX PHEV (AKA Outlander Sport PHEV)

development from Outlander PHEV
FWD instead of AWD (ie loses 1x electric axle)
1.1 litre 3 cyl turbo motor 100kw instead of 2 litre 4cyl 87kW
1 x 120kw electric motor for front axle
voltage booster to 700volts for low rpm
(presume the electric motor is similar to current 60kwW design, just with a short term 120kW rating)
outlander stye use of the differential (transaxle) for input 2 power sources to the axle

assumed
batteries improves 12kWh becomes 14kWh
CVT added to 1.1 litre motor to allow parallel drive at urban speeds and greater acceleration
generator reduced from 30kW to 10kW
depreciation amortization + other improvement halves the cost of useful li ion kWh (includes increase in SOC range etc)

results
significant cost reduction, combined with acceleration improvements and some fuel economy gains.
will be competing against a cheaper class of vehicle (FWD) than the outlander phev (AWD)

in summary, the future premium between the fwd petrol ASX and the fwd ASX PHEV will be about half the premium between the current FWD petrol Outlander and the awd outlander PHEV.

And the improvements in acceleration and fuel economy will be noticeable.
