Discuss misinformation you hear about EVs in podcasts...

Not sure if many of you listen to TWiT, but I finally finished ep 421 today and was rolling my eyes at the misconceptions and statements near the end. Sure they aren't car nor EV guys, but it is a little annoying that tech pundits/journalists are rather off.

I think it started at ~1:32:50 of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLNR_hKj2wk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. Sigh... calling the Leaf a "failure" despite it being the best selling EV ever (they don't mention that). Sure, it fell way short of expected sales but so did the Volt and for some reason, Leo wants his Audi A8 and an EV, so people suggest a Volt :?: (that also fell WAY short of expected sales).

Volt isn't a pure EV. It's certainly not the first car I'd name if someone said EV. How is the Volt not even more of a "failure" if the Leaf is one?

One guy gives a goofy excuse about infrastructure for a reason why he doesn't have a Model S. Being a tech journalist (and presumably not making much $) is a valid excuse though.

Dvorak says that battery swapping "is the way to go". I guess none of them know about what happened to Better Place.

They go off on a tangent for a bit and then give more misinformation at ~1:43:10, talking about the Leaf in practically a past tense.

It's pretty clear they don't really understand the EV industry very well.

Ep page is at http://twit.tv/show/this-week-in-tech/421" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

TWiT struck again w/their EV misinformation. Listen starting around 1:45:10 of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=juDPlamILiQ" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. (I was at CES and did test drive the i3 2x.)

This time, they were off on the i3's starting price, claiming $35K when it's actually over $42K w/destination charge and nothing revolution in terms of technology. Uhh... it's the first mass-market car w/such extensive use of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (http://articles.sae.org/12056/).

Then, they referred to Tesla as being the "leader" in that sector. Sure, they've got a TON of positive buzz and a product w/incredible range and performance. But I guess somehow the Leaf, being the best selling EV in the world w/over 100K units sold doesn't make them a leader? Tesla's only moved about 25K Model S units worldwide, so far.

If they were smarter they wouldn't be doing tech podcasts.

+1
The scary thing is non-technical folks (like my wife) listen to these guys and think they REALLY know what they're talking about!
