They're gone!

An investor group headed by Hong Kong tycoon Richard Li purchased the federal loan made to Karma plug-in hybrid sports car maker Fisker Automotive and acquired the assets of the nearly defunct automaker.

Fisker has voluntarily filed petitions to liquidate under the U.S. Bankruptcy code, and Li’s Hybrid Technology has committed up to $8 million in financing to fund the sale and Chapter 11 process.

Considering that Tesla has managed to build up a market cap over $20B if someone could fix the problems $149M is a bargain. Long way to go though.

Here you go -- no issues with an iMac using Safari or Win 7 and Chrome, it also included stock photos on past and planned Fisker models, saw a white one the other day, they had a dealer in Schaumburg, IL that still had the logo/sign in the window; perhaps hopping for a comeback?

Fisker is best known for producing the Karma electric vehicle in the early 2010s, but the luxury automaker has a tumultuous, jagged history.

Co-founded in 2007 by Danish designer Henrik Fisker, the California-based automaker had several issues right out of the gate, a patent lawsuit by Tesla being the first. The suit was settled in Fisker’s favor, but things started to go downhill from there. After years of failed loans, layoffs, and languish, Fisker filed for bankruptcy in 2013.

Henry Fisker resigned his position as Executive Chairman in March of that year, and returned to his previous craft as a motorcycle designer.

His company was then purchased by the Wanxiang Group, who planned to relaunch the Karma in the first 18 months. Wanxiang Group’s optimistic goals included selling 1,000 Karmas in the United States and 500 more in Europe during that timeframe, but, in true Fisker fashion, there have been some roadblocks.

Pin Ni, president of Wanxiang’s U.S. division, told Automotive News, “At Fisker, the biggest issue is to solve the problems. There are about 250 bugs in [the Karma] we need to de-bug.”

Ni is still optimistic about reviving the Karma within a year, but given its historical issues with fires, recalls, and overall quality, he’s committed to perfecting the vehicle before it goes on sale.

“I often say that Wanxiang can afford to make cars, but Wanxiang cannot afford to make bad cars,” he said.

After the Karma is reborn, Fisker has a second model in the works. Ni and Waxiang chairman Lu Guanqiu wouldn’t go into details on the car yet, but they hope to have it on the road by 2017.

“The new Fisker” is currently focused on finding new supply chains and high-quality components, but Waxiang group has its eyes on the horizon as well. Marine-themed models called the Atlantic, Surf, and Sunset are all on the charts.

The cars may have soothing names, but remember, this is Fisker we’re talking about here. There’s bound to be some drama.

Name change aside, Wanxiang will reportedly retain most of Fisker’s original design. It previously said it wanted to keep changes to a minimum, which would make re-certifying the car for sale easier.
...
Wanxiang will also reportedly raise the price to $135,000, about 20 percent more than the sticker price of a Karma back in 2012

It took awhile -- need to update the thread name (a bit) and add 'Revero' after Karma ... slight styling updates and of course the EV tech will change as well. As they listed Chicago as one of the 10 locations they'll be selling it, I wonder if that dealer mentioned earlier in this post will take yet another shot with the now new Chinese owner or it will be downtown ... also, doesn't appear that this new car will challenge the 107-mile range for a LEAF but then again the original Fisker Karma was simply a PHEV anyway. Seeing one of these was still kind of cool at the time but by now the novelty has indeed worn off with the latest innovations in EV's.

I wasn't even aware of the status of its resurrection until I stumbled across http://www.greencarreports.com/news/1106013_2017-karma-revero-nee-fisker-launch-updates-new-infotainment.

All I can say is LOL! I think this vehicle will (at least in the US) flounder and possibly fail just as badly as the original Karma and just be a money pit for Wanxiang. Maybe they can sell these in China or something, where Tesla has very little EV/PHEV share... That might be one of the places where it can succeed.

imagine that

https://www.cnbc.com/2020/07/06/ppp-loans-to-tech-start-ups-bird-mixpanel-grindr-on-the-list.html says "Karma Automotive, an electric vehicle startup, received between $5 million and $10 million in loans."

I wonder if that # will be repaid in full...
