Easy Climate Control Fan-Only Solution - 5 cents, 5 mins

It really hurts but it certainly appears that way. Thanks for sharing this!

Easy Climate Control Fan-Only Solution - 5 cents, 5 mins

Thanks for posting those pictures. Very helpful. Yes, they are most likely for debugging or probing. CN2 connects to the microcontroller's serial port 1. CN2 Pins 1 thru 4 are mapped to the processors pin 31 thru 27. So Pin 4 is TxD1 and Pin3 is RxD1. One of Pin 5 or 6 must be GND. Anyone up...

BareEVSE - an EVSE circuit for under $5

Yes, I think you might have a point. Thank you. But under this 625.13(A) NEC proposal (which I could not determine if it has already passed) and the 2008 NEC (says the same thing in that regard) I think 125V is OK because it does not need to follow 625.18, 19, and 29 which Phil qouted: 625.13...

BareEVSE - an EVSE circuit for under $5

Thanks for pointing that out. I really appreciate that. I certainly do not condone anything that is illegal or violates the local electrical code. I will revise my initial post to warn that the US electrical code only allows EVSEs rated up to 125V 20A to be used without a relay located at the...

Easy Climate Control Fan-Only Solution - 5 cents, 5 mins

Thanks! Very useful information! What kind of insulation did you use? The PTC heater is located under the battery and is fully accessible if you remove the drivers' side front wheel and the front fender protector. To remove that the front under cover also needs to be removed. If I remember...

BareEVSE - an EVSE circuit for under $5

While talking about safety please keep in mind that I have also presented a version with a relay. That turns it into the analog version of OpenEVSE. Also note that I have only presented the 12V part of the circuit. So if your local electrical code allows for aluminum foil in burrito wrappers...

A peek at the Leaf's Charger

Wow, the BRUSA seems like a really awesome charger. Thanks for posting that. It's specifically designed for EVs. I've found the manual of a predecessor of the same series: http://www.brusa.biz/fileadmin/Diverses/Download/Manuals/NLG5xx_179_ab_Nr25.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return...

BareEVSE - an EVSE circuit for under $5

I have read many of your posts during the past year and I certainly value your opinion. So, thank you for responding. I'd like to point out that both of the presented circuit versions were built around 8 months ago and have been tested almost daily with no adverse effects. Yes, you are right...

BareEVSE - an EVSE circuit for under $5

I was refering to the plug alone. You are right, with a cord it is $134 at Leviton. I thought I saw the plug alone there some time ago for a little over $100. It's definately no longer offered now. I paid a discounted rate at whole seller 8 months ago for a couple of plugs. Since this deal is...

Easy Climate Control Fan-Only Solution - 5 cents, 5 mins

Not bad, but I think it is too thin. The thermal conductivity is per meter and it is only 3 mm thick. So the thicker the better. I'm thinking a self adhesive insulation sheet like this would better...

BareEVSE - an EVSE circuit for under $5

OK, with fantastic solutions like OpenEVSE around, here is something with a different design goal: A bare minimum circuit to successfully charge a Nissan Leaf with components that just sit idle in your parts box. No programming required. Well, here it is: It's a good old NE555 that's...

Easy Climate Control Fan-Only Solution - 5 cents, 5 mins

I did a quick experiment. Preheated the car for about 10 mins. Outside temp was around 26F. Here are some pictures that I took with a thermal imaging camera. All from the driver's side perspective. Upper left shows the center vents where the warm air blows out at about 91F. (You can also see...

The one with the "highest" power will be R1 here 1/8 of a watt will do. The rest can be almost anything.

Thanks and yes I've designed and built two different low cost EVSE. More on that later. :-)

Easy Climate Control Fan-Only Solution - 5 cents, 5 mins

If you look at the two pictures that I posted at the beginning of this thread you can see the pipes. On the second one you can see the non-existent insulation. I will try to post better pictures shortly.

Yes, that would work if that is what you want. You can connect the output of the NE555 directly to the gate of the MOSFET. I'm not sure if it will actually save you a lot of energy because the PTC heaters in the Leaf heat up water to around 160F. So as we all know, it takes a while until you...

Easy Climate Control Fan-Only Solution - 5 cents, 5 mins

Thank you!!! I can't tell you how happy I am that someone has actually built this the very same day that I posted it. That really made all the time it took to document what I did worth while. I'm glad to have shared this with you all.

Easy Climate Control Fan-Only Solution - 5 cents, 5 mins

I've never seen Phil's solution but I've read what he wrote in this forum. He said his version does not modify the firmware. With being reversible he explained that there is a wire loop coming out of his modified unit that can be cut to disable the mod. You can do the same thing with my version...

I've just tested that. It works in my Leaf. With defog on, I can still switch between fresh air and recirculation.
