    Heater In a Box

When it comes to electric heaters (and even inverters for heaters) there is no such thing as an inefficient one. 100% of the juice that comes out of the battery becomes heat ... unless you're running lights of making sound. But then I'd love to know how much heat is lost under the hood. When I...

    Supposed Software Enhancement--Total FAIL

We got the software update about 2 weeks ago. The day after it was put in the car stopped charging (L2 EVupgrade) at 75% after 3 trips. The message about charging stopped at 80% never triggered. I pulled the plug, waited a bit and plugged it back in, repeated this, and it still would not go...

    Nissan LEAF Owners in Toronto?

Hi NizzyLeaf I've had my Leaf since Dec 5/11 Got about 16500 K on it. I live just north of Bolton and work near Dixie and 401. see duffyslanemaple.ca or hhrobertsmachinery.com if you would like to chat. PS going from Bolton to work and back virtually every day I have yet to see another...

AC pump turns off when car is plugged in?

Last winter I plugged in and the charger kicked on just after midnight and finished at 80%. Every morning when I got up, I'd log on with the laptop and turn on climate control and the car would pre-heat every time Earlier this (HOT) summer, I would plug in the car when I got to work. By 10:30...

    DEAD LEAF

I'm in the machine tool business. We sell and service CNC machines. There is no question that we get more CNC / inverter failures the day after a thunderstorm. I treat my Leaf with the same advice I tell my CNC customers. Unplug the machine / car during the thunderstorms. Most move off in...

    Adding ELECTRIC to your Leaf

Here's my version Love the local dealer's name that I bought it from, in the town of Maple Ontario. Maple Nissan. My maple Leaf, and yes, we do make maple syrup here too.

    Auto self-locking door

Maybe I'm thick but I've tried a few times and I can't make it stop auto locking. The proceedure turns off the auto-unlocking so the car stays locked after you push the "off" ignition button.

    Auto self-locking door

This bugs me every day. I live in a rural community. I stop at the end of the driveway to pick up the morning paper on the way to work. I stop at the end of our driveway every day to pick the mail out of the mailbox. Why do I have to unlock the door to let myself out. Well because if I...

Things that should and should not be automatic..

As I mentioned above .... too much Bill Gates If I'm in the driver's seat and I pull the door open latch, why wouldn't it unlock the door for me ?? It's not like a back seat with a kid the might get out while you're travelling. Pretty poorly thought out.

Things that should and should not be automatic..

My guess is the the battery pack would take a pretty big whallup of juice to heat it up so it might need some priority setting. Charge first priority ... after 80% start the battery warmer or something like that ... and I said manually, I really mean timer / manual control. I think Bill...

Things that should and should not be automatic..

The car already has a battery warmer. Why can't I turn it on manually, when plugged in, to warm it up and extend range. I think it would take several hours for the battery to cool and you can't run the car for much more than an hour to 90 minutes in cold weather. By then you'd be back to a...

    SPX 32A L2 Plug-In, All-Voltage EVSE

mine does a very breif power up at the pre-set ( low TOU) time at either the 80% or 100% level, every day / every time it passed the set time.

wasting money on 30 amp units ??

You won't find many 30 amp plugs at your friends houses either. The best portable deal is the EVSE conversion to 220 V and the Quick 220. This will give you 12 amps of 220V charge. With the Quick 220 you plug the device into a standard 15 amp 120 V outlet and then use an extension cord to find...

If not for the LEAF would you have considered a Nissan?

I wouldn't have dreamed of another Nissan product if it were not for the Leaf. I even had a lot of second thoughts about it. We had an Infinity SUV that was a nightmare for service that totally p'd us off. Will never touch another Infinity. Got a Lexus and Toyota Highlander. Best 2...

lost Carwings while plugged in with 220V

Thanks for the tip. In medical terms, when they don't know what they're dealing with, I think they call it "idiopathic" So my idiopathic behaviour seemed to go away all by itself after a couple days. I can log on and start the climate control, and re-start charging pretty much at will now.

    Max range in Qc

I go from Bolton, Ont to just S.E. of the Toronto airport, 40 Km. Got the car Dec 5. I have not yet tried to do the round trip without charging at work. A couple days when it was warmest, I "might" have made it, but it would have been close. You lose a lot to heating so I always preheat...

Leaf to be produced in USA

My ICE costs me about $ 12.00 a day in gas. So far Carwings has me at about $ 0.80 a day. Oh yeh .... our gas has lots more tax in the pump price than yours. :(

Leaf to be produced in USA

If things keep going as they are now, I'll keep about $ 4000 a year in my pocket compared to ICE. If they last 10 years, the batteries will owe us nothing. Edit: and that's at today's gas prices

Leaf to be produced in USA

There are issues at play in this game that are very unpredictable. The costs of motors and battery packs could go anywhere. Toyota recently signed up a deal with a Canadian mineral exploration company that has found a deposit of rare earth metals that are exactly what Toyota needs for super...

    Towing to recharge

The Leaf owner's manual says that the car should be hoisted to a flatbed or towed on it's rear wheels only. But every time you take your foot of the throttle, isn't it the same as towing, ie the car is in re-generative mode. From my Carwings data it looks like 15 to 25% of the energy...
