Cost per mile of range, eleven BEVs ranked

Real world experience. 2011 Leaf driven in Los Angeles (freeway and streets, not much use of heater). 14 months of driving: 13,981 miles. Home EV meter change: 4,027 kWh (I don't charge away from my home). Average cost per kWh from LADWP for dedicated EV meter on Time of Use (including all...

LAX parking not free starting March 1

My vote is for lots 1 and 6 to provide free parking for perhaps 5 hours (or one day) for EVs. This would allow anyone to charge (there will be many available charging ports), but will not give away free parking to those who don't need it. Additionally, they can add some L2 (or how about fast?)...

Timer malfunction, left me with a half-dead car

The timer is too confusing/inconsistent when it crosses days. Here is how I have it set: Timer 1: 12:10 am start 9:50 am end Timer 2: 12:10 am start 11:50 pm end I assign M-F to Timer 1 and Sat/Sun to Timer 2. It works exactly as you would expect, except it is off for 20 minutes as it...

Rats May Be a Threat to BEV and PHEV

I think rats are a REAL problem for the Leaf and other EVs. The batteries charge during the night and are warm during that charge (many hours). This is certainly an attractant. My Leaf has not suffered damage yet, but is visited nightly. (My other two cars aren't visited nearly as often, but...

Legrand EV Level 2 Car Charging station

This unit (L2EVSE16) was recommended to me by the local power company when they were doing the site survey for the separate EV meter. It is a simple unit to install and just works. I have had one problem with it and the company is VERY responsive. I am using it on a Leaf. It charges in less...

    Leaf won't turn off

After charging (L2) in a covered garage, I got the "T/M system malfunction Visit Dealer" message when trying to turn the car on. After several attempts to turn it on, I found that by waiting about a minute (with the display lit), it would actually turn on. (I didn't do anything, just wait.)...
