    Monster Leaf

I'm changing people's minds, one project at a time. I'm just glad I'm not the only one who thinks this is really cool. If you look back at my first post, I said "Call me crazy, but..." Here we are a few months later and this thing is turning out better that I had expected. I figured I had a...

    Monster Leaf

Weekly Update: Got the paint pretty much done. (don't give me too much grief about the rattle can job. Remember, It's a hunting buggy) Got the front bumper and winch mounted. (still need to fabricate some sort of skid plate to protect the radiator) Mounting the rear bumper today. Overall, I...

Making progress: I got it about 2/3 of the way painted. Ran out of paint. I need to finish the first coat, wipe it down with mineral spirits and apply second coat to even up the finish, then put a satin clear coat on it. Does anyone on here know how much clear coat I will need to buy to do a...

    Increasing ground clearance

Not planning to take it to any public trails. I have a hunting property that I bought a few years ago and decided to pump about $1500 into this instead of spending $8,000 on a lifted golf cart. Seemed like a better use of a vehicle that isn't really worth much as a trade in.

Good thought. The pictures are from the initial mock up. I want to keep the stock bumper behind this contraption to protect the stock components like the windshield washer fluid tank and use this bumper mostly as a winch mount and push guard. It will actually be mounted a few inches tighter to...

    Monster Leaf

Thanks. I still have quite a way to go. Need to figure out fender flares to cover where I cut the fenders and I have a front and rear pipe bumper from a jeep Wrangler that I'm trying to fit up. I'm trying to figure out how to mount it without eliminating the original mounting bolts from the...

    Increasing ground clearance

With the lift kit and tires I got about 3.5 - 4 inches to the body and the front end. The lift kit doesn't raise the rear axle beam so I only got about 1.5 under the rear axle.

    Increasing ground clearance

I just lifted mine and put 14" wheels and UTV tires on it. Had to do a little cutting to get the 27" X 9" tires to turn without rubbing the inner fender. Here's the kit I bought...

    Lifting a Leaf

I bought 2" kit on ebay. It was super easy to install with minimal specialty tools required. Not sure how it has affected alignment but I don't necessarily care about that since my Leaf is now offroad only. I did have to cut corner off the front bumper and back side of the front fender so the 27...

I love the older 4 runners. I looked at buying one before I decided to do this project. They make fantastic off roaders with only having to make very few mods. The other thing I looked at was a 90's model Jeep Grand Cherokee and go the classic rock crawler route. There are tons of cool mods...

    Monster Leaf

Weekly Progress update: Lift kit installed, wheel spacers installed, rear of front fender and front bumper has been cut to eliminate tires rubbing. I think I'll have to do a small amount of heavy hammer pounding on the rear of the front fender well. Removing the inner fender skirt has left the...

Nope. They're 14" UTV tires. I added 2" wheel spacers to widen the stance. They are 27 X 9 tires and after a little bit of cutting, and removing the inner fender skirt they just barely fit without rubbing.. I'll update the photos later today. The previous phots were before I added the 2" lift kit.

    Monster Leaf

Just a progress update: 2" Lift kit should be here today. That should increase clearance considerably but I will likely still have to cut the fenders and put on some fender flares. I got the front wheels and tires on with the 2" wheel spacers. Here's a before photo and a few after photos. I...

Great response. These are the exact things I needed to know. So, in order to achieve the lift I desire, I would likely have to build or fabricate new control arms for the front, as well as possibly extend the break lines. Also, in the rear I would have to replace or extend the trailing arm to...

    Monster Leaf

So, I'm not really a car guy (yet) but I want to learn how all the components work together to achieve proper suspension geometry. I don't know if a 6 inch lift on this thing is even attainable. I don't mind doing the research but I really don't know where to start. Does anyone know if the stock...

    Monster Leaf

I actually have 2 leafs. I have a 2015 and I have this 2011. I've got 7 vehicles (nothing new. I think the newest is 2016) and only 3 drivers so I can sacrifice the one that's worth the least and it won't hurt a bit.

But if I can pull it off it'll be really sick.

It would cost me about $8K to buy a replacement golf cart (like the one I had). The car is only worth about $3K. If I can outfit the leaf for a couple thousand I would have far greater range and power compared to a 48V golf cart, not to mention Heat and AC. Win - Win I have already determined...

    Monster Leaf

Okay, call me crazy but hear me out. I have a 2011 Leaf that is just an extra vehicle. My hunting golf cart recently fell victim to a fire so I figured, heck, why not just lift that Leaf about 6-8 inches and slap some 31" tractor tires under it. Does anyone know what it would take to do this...
