The official "I got my Leaf" thread

Not at my first-anniversary on my 2012 yet, but VERY much enjoy the vehicle (and I've had plenty of "sporty" rides in my several decades of driving). At some point I will likely self-swap the OEM battery for a newer/bigger one, but blessedly my employer has free L2's, so I top-off here at work...

    First time EV owner

Indeed; the "hot setup" for we elder-Leaf (me=2012) owners is 2xx-volt charger at home, and carry a 120-volt with you. Become *intimately* familiar with the various EV charging networks and applications: You might get in "range-jeopary" at some point, and better to have pre-mapped some pay...

    Should I buy a 73k mile 2018 SL?

12v Heated Blanket: I've posted elsewhere on this for we owners of aging LEAFs (me=2012) in the winter. That blanket is direct warmth ("taco'ed" with the heated seat), not trying to warm the cabin, and doesn't tax the accessory battery much. The fogging surely is a problem; I use anti-fog...

    Can I use a level2 charger (e.g 2019 leaf) to charge on a 120 outlet?

Some EVSE's "auto-switch" (e.g. determine input voltage and adjust accordingly). If your spec's confirm this, then you're good to go. 'Put some strain relief on those wires, tho - ok? It's likely to get tugged hard, and you want that stress to go to the socket structure, not your screwed-wire...

no heating: (Blower runs but only cold air) (2012)

Sorry to hear of the fail - but if it's a 2012 such as mine, it's probably time to consider alternative-heating methods (if the rest of the car/traction-battery is sufficiently functional). You can search the threads here; my posts, and others', have details on using UPS's and inverters to...

    12 Volt Battery enhancement

I've done some posts on my cold-weather approaches: Inexpensive deep-cycle, plus 12v heated blanket, or/and inverter plus small space heater: https://mynissanleaf.com/posts/636453/ Enough to get me to/from work, then simple recharge the marine/trolling batteries each night. Easy+cheap+clean.

    To buy or not

Per the above, be HONEST and CONSERVATIVE on your needs: Probably better that you only now/ever need ~25 miles total (or are *SURE* you can charge at your one-way point), ...else consider passing. As one of the few that the above fits me perfectly, my aged 2012 is a perfect choice - relying on...

    LeafSpy help online file?

Would there be an issue with posting a version of that "user-guide", here? Presumably, the value/profitability-element is buying the App itself...'not its instructructions<?> Has anyone inquired about that option?

Upgrade for weak windshield washer jet pattern

A bit of a thread resurrection for a question or two...: As the Gen-1 nozzles seem to be poorly positioned, did that indicate even replacement (at their present site) with adjustable/aim-able units would also fail? Seemingly if they were shrouded by the overhang, then indeed, one would be...

Realistic odds of upgrading 2015 24kWh battery pack?

Perhaps you might consider an interim older/inexpensive hybrid, until the battery technology (and charging infrastructure improves). I love my Leaf "grocery-getter/work-scooter", but have the enviable advantage of rarely traveling beyond a fifty mile round trip...barely feasible for my 2012...

@philso - Thanks for taking the time to fully document your tweak!

Failed To Charge At Nissan Dealership

Update/thx-for-feedback: Was near my local dealership, and popped in to check, and fortunately their L2 was back online😊.. 'Do not know if the previous "unpowered" situation was a problem/maintenance, or purposeful after-hours security. Interestingly, they DO have a Chademo - but it's a...

    DIY V2L using 12V system

Looking forward to your update reporting on your satisfaction with the lithium-based aux-system. I'm still at the "proof of concept" stage (all very positive so far), with the anticipated A-h limitation of AGM - which I had already for another project: My UPS/array keeps me toasty for about...

    One more range question.

Per replies here (and my posts in other threads about "alternative winter heat"), the Leaf's heating system does appear absurdly inefficient. Not only does it consume an inordinate amout of energy/range-juice, but it is slow to warm upon initiating... I've been MUCH more satisfied - for short...

Failed To Charge At Nissan Dealership

Not to divert/hijack - but tangent to "charging at dealership" thread; are most Nissan dealerships cool with we (older) Leaf'sters recharging if their slots are open? I've done it a few times, and - if staff were around - always asked politely and was never turned away. Interestingly, however...

    DIY V2L using 12V system

The under-hood/non-traction battery is ill-suited for any invertor support (E.E. w/Leaf-Experience here...): You're much better served by looking into the better developed Float+Solar+AGM/Lithium home powering solutions out there... You can study up, determine your power requirements, and...

    Internal car power plug

Brilliant approach, Toby. 'Particularly if/once someone has "upgraded" the 1st Gen accessory battery to something more sensible (like larger deep-cycle AGM or Lithium). 'Might have to give that a try at some point (...'might you know if that's available in the US? I'll do some web-searching...

    Is CHAdeMO safe?

Ah; I do see a swag price on Ali - at least this is a ballpark (if available/accurate, etc): https://inverter.en.alibaba.com/productgrouplist-804276068/V2H_system.html

    Is CHAdeMO safe?

GM - and thanks for the website link and mfr-reference: I did drop them a note inquiring about US distribution (and suggested retail $). If you had a ballpark "cost" for which you were selling (presumably in Euros), I'd appreciate the guidance. ...'Quite an interesting notion - I got a kick...
