Magnetic LED lights for bike rack (1UP) or cargo carrier

Some of you might find this useful. The video goes over installation of inexpensive LED lights that are magnetic and can be quickly moved depending on the rack's position. I'm using a 1UP Super Duty rack to carry 3 bikes. Curt LED lights: https://www.curtmfg.com/part/53201 Hitch and Wiring...

    53kw CATL Upgrade on 2013 Leaf S

Sound like they need to hire @Dala to fix this! In any case, please keep reporting your progress here if you can :) I have my fingers crossed for a well though out solution using newer tech cells. @Simon357 , are you using Dala's canbridge solution for your CATL setup? I've had zero...

Full brake service and fluid flush to Bosch DOT 5.1 - 2018 LEAF SL

@trentr, I just use a collection tray under the wheel assembly and wipe up after. It's been two years now and the Bosch 5.1 fluid has done its job, particularly in very cold temps. Zero issues. I just checked the fluid moisture levels and they did not reqister (so between 0 and 1%) so will do...

A thread for people happy with their Leaf

2018 LEAF SL which is quite fine as an urban runner, and commuter to our camp, 130 km one way. Zero mechanical issues after 3 years of near daily use. It's not a sexy car by any stretch, but either am I..so perhaps guess a good match :) There are a few items you want to do yearly and/or every...

Range loss with and without mountain bikes/rack - ODBII logs - 2018 LEAF SL

I ran another quick test after swapping over from the winter rims/tires, to the summers. The studded winters (most studs are worn to tread depth) I’m using on the car are actually about 4% more efficient vs the wider/lower profile Ecopia EP422 Plus summers. At 97 kmh, the winter tires/rims...

    53kw CATL Upgrade on 2013 Leaf S

I was quite pleasantly suprised to read this post as there is hope for an easy rebuild when my 2018 requires it. I'm still at 88% SOH after 94K kms, so good for now. How is everything going with the car?

Range loss with and without mountain bikes/rack - ODBII logs - 2018 LEAF SL

I conducted a quick range test using our 2018 LEAF SL with two mountain bikes out back on a 1uP Super Duty rack. 2" reciever is from Ecohitch. Data logged using LeafSpy Pro. Calm winds, flat section of highway driven in both directions, no drafting etc. Speed was set at 100km/h using the...

    Dala's solar-powered workshop (+DIY powerwall coming)

Elon is already counting heavily on recycled lithium as part of the master plan. @dala open source and $15 sound pretty compelling :-) So you mean these bits:

    Dala's solar-powered workshop (+DIY powerwall coming)

Simply awesome... I suspect a lot of LEAF packs will end up used exactly in this manner :-) Is this something you might sell as a plug and play solution?

    Dala's solar-powered workshop (+DIY powerwall coming)

Makes sense...thanks for the clarification. How is the project going?

    Electric Boating

Bob, what an interesting project. The work you did on your eCat is quite impressive. As in my message to you I’m interesting in adding electric drive to my 18 ft Hobie cat. Then I found this. A diy electric foiling catamaran made from some Hobie 18 hulls. Mad skills by this builder who...

    Dala's solar-powered workshop (+DIY powerwall coming)

Dala, I can't thank you enough for posting up your journey. Your excitement is infectious as you step through the process :-) Please keep the videos coming as you connect up to the grid! My question is on the cell clamping. On three of your cells, you're using the OEM, very stiff cast...

    Charging protocol

I'm not using any aftermarket remote access..just triggering climate control from the app, or using the car's timer to replicate how you would be using climate control to pre-heat. The car will use the heat pump as soon as I start driving (outside temps -5 C). It does not use it when connected...

    Charging protocol

Ambient temp in the shop was 0 C or 32 F. LeafSpy was plugged in to monitor as the car's HVAC fired up on it's own in the three tests. I set the heat set point to 25 C each time to make sure demand was high. The car door was open too, as I wanted the PTC heater at low resistance. The heat...

    Charging protocol

My understanding is that during preheat, if a car is plugged in, the system only uses what is available with respect to L1 or L2. At the EV car show I was in, another owner came up and was asking why preheat on his 2018 was so poor at very low temps. He can only plug into L1 at his house, and...

    E-pedal Safety in rainy weather

I use ePedal all the time in snow and ice. The car's stability management system handles it just fine in the urban cycle, however I would never back off the throttle suddenly at highway speeds in slippery conditions using epedal as that is asking for trouble. You want to modulate both speed...

    Charging protocol

I can confirm that plugged in to 16 amps @ 240V and it will not gain charge during pre-conditioning (heat). Conversely, I have not seen charge decrease when plugged in at 120V, but preheat is not effective at -20 C using 120 V.

    16A 110v portable charger

Yes, the 16 amp EVSE will be fine on a 20 amp circuit and does charge faster than the OEM which will only deliver 12 amps. I'm using an EVSE rated at 16 amps 120V, or 16 amps 240V depending on whether the plug adaptor is attached or not. Service to my garage is 30 amps max, so I cannot use the...

S+ Efficiency vs. SV+ Efficiency testing

Nice work … and thanks for taking the time to both test and post your results. The difference in efficiency with the tire change does not surprise me at all. Perhaps a rolling resistance comparative may show up as a standardized tire spec in our future? A few others have reported seeing a big...

New Nissan EV app is out!

It looks like reports are gone for good?, but at least the climate timer function is back in the app. I looked at the reports regularly and they likely prompted driving behavior changes (for the good). I’ll be sad if they are indeed retired for good.
