Recargo's DCFC Station Contract on 101 in Central California has expired

More details about the CEC & Recargo station site status is available here: https://electricrevs.com/2019/09/08/ca-issued-stop-work-orders-against-recargo-on-22-state-funded-charging-sites/

    ChaoJi

FYI, I wrote an article about this today that gives a few more details. Joint China and Japan ChaoJi project works towards “CHAdeMO 3.0” https://electricrevs.com/2019/06/19/joint-china-and-japan-chaoji-project-works-towards-chademo-3-0/

    Electrify America Network

Their max location spacing is 120 miles in flat rural areas. Spacing closer to urban areas tends to be 50-60 miles. They say that they do take account of elevation changes and terrain. I don’t know specifically if they take account of areas with colder winter extremes — that’s a good question.

They have a location map at their website that shows individual site construction status, sort of. Locations under design but without permits generally are not shown yet on their map which confuses people into thinking those areas won’t be getting stations this year. Locations with permits...

More status from EA today. All 484 Cycle 1 sites have now been identified and acquired and all are scheduled to be complete by the end of this year. A few dozen new Cycle 2 sites should also be open by the end of 2019 which should push the total open sites past 500 by year’s end...

it's turtles all the way down, at -13F

Lithium ion batteries have potential safety issues charging quickly at colder temperatures but are happy to discharge except that power is reduced due to the chemical reactions slowing down when cold. The battery management controller knows about the charging safety issue (lithium metal...

    Leaf Plus Charging Rate

The CHAdeMO specification has been updated since the original version which only provided for 125A or about 50 kW. The latest version allows for up to 400A. Actual EVs have their own internal limitations and they tell the charger how much power to provide. The existing LEAF models probably...

new 2019 E+ leaf battery pack no active cooling?

I just wrote a new on-topic article: Does the new 62 kWh LEAF battery have “an additional fan” for cooling? https://electricrevs.com/2019/01/31/does-the-new-62-kwh-leaf-battery-have-an-additional-fan-for-cooling/

Lots more details are now available on the actual problem: https://electricrevs.com/2019/01/26/hubersuhner-issues-statement-on-liquid-cooled-charging-cable-safety-issue/ Basically, they think some ordinary water leaked through inadequate seals in the charging plug. Also, a roundup of what...

I don’t know the exact arrangement between EA and the property owners but I assume EA pays some kind of lease for using the parking spaces. Also don’t know the exact arrangements around how the electricity is paid for. These details are not public as far as I know.

That’s not my impression because EA has been filing quarterly reports with California (CARB) listing how many sites have been acquired vs design in progress vs permits filed vs permits obtained. They have reported many more sites acquired than have been listed as “coming soon” on the map.

Right. The community DC sites are listed on the map although there aren’t many of them yet so most of what you see are highway sites. Community AC sites are being developed by a few other charging providers that EA has subcontracted to. The few AC sites that are open do not seem to be listed...

My impression is that “coming soon” seems to mean that design plans have been created, submitted, and approved for permits. It does not imply that physical construction has begun.

They are not merging. Very early on Electrify America wanted to show that they were doing something so they contracted with EVgo and gave them a bunch of money to upgrade some EVgo sites and co-brand them. EVgo has not been involved in later efforts while competitors like Greenlots has gotten...

    Electrify America Network

When EA says stations they mean locations (as in gas stations). They are building three types of location: 1. Highway DC with 4 to 10 charging spaces (charge ports in your lingo) that can be used in parallel at full power (no power-splitting m). Typically, 2 spaces are 350 kW CCS and the rest...

    2019 "60 kWh" Leaf e-Plus

EVgo is nearly finished upgrading their first site from 50 kW to 100 kW CCS and CHAdeMO. https://electricrevs.com/2018/12/17/evgos-first-100-kw-site-is-being-readied-in-san-jose/ EA has said all of their 50 kW CHAdeMO cables will be software upgradable to 100 kW at some point but they haven’t...

60 kWh LEAF Introduction Placed on HOLD

Aha! Okay, I should have checked the 2018 entry as well as the 2019. I have no idea what changed the result between 2018 and 2019.

60 kWh LEAF Introduction Placed on HOLD

I think the 151 may be a rounding error. The EPA at fueleconomy.gov and Nissan docs released yesterday comparing the 40 vs 62 kWh packs say the range of the 40 kWh LEAF is 150 miles.
