    Auto Power off?

Auto-power off could be implemented such that car is in Park, key is not detected, seat sensors indicate no occupants, all seatbelts unlatched, and optional timeout enabled. Telematics would push a message a few minutes after abandoning the car, five minutes before timeout, and at timeout...

2016-2017 model year 30 kWh bar losers and capacity losses

Had the update done on Friday to my 2016 SV. SOH went from 90.18% to 95.55%. GOM showed 131 miles after a full charge (whereas 114-121 is more typical for my driving patterns). AHr jumped from 71.675 to 75.943. Curiously, HX unaffected and is still dropping; currently 83.87. (SOH also dropping...

    H13/9008 bulb change

So far, none of the aftermarket LED headlight bulb retrofits are DOT approved. As such, the resulting beam pattern may or may not equal the original beam pattern. If you do go the LED route, choose wisely and verify the resulting beam pattern before and after. You don’t want to blind other...

    Recommendations for light-duty commercial EVSEs

I believe Wattzilla is producing several varieties of rugged UL-certified EVSE units based on the OpenEVSE project. Looks like everything from a portable cable to a four-head 80A pedestal. They have a trade-in program for older EVSEs as well. https://www.wattzilla.com

How to get more charging stations.

Perhaps it is time once again to lobby your electric utility. It seems decades of promoting conservation, efficiency, and home solar have actually paid off, if not on the balance sheet. Houses are using less electricity now with all the LED lighting, high efficiency heat pumps, insulation, and...

Power Inverter and Space Heater in Leaf

Here is an idea I experimented with: a small solid state thermoelectric 12V cooler, the kind sized to hold about a six pack of sodas, inside completely filled with water in a well-sealed bag. Run the cooler in "warming" mode to heat up the water. When heat is needed in the morning, run in "cool"...

What is the name of this plug?

Mouser is a great source for finding connectors. Nissan uses TE Connectivity 025 Series. You can use Mouser's connector search tool to find just about anything. Sometimes they'll be out of stock of one thing, but with a little poking around you can often find a compatible variant that is in...

    trunk light

My 2016 SV automatically turns off interior lights if a door is left open long enough. Might be 5 or 10 minutes. I replaced my trunk light with a bright white LED from the local auto store. Much better visibility and doesn't get so hot.

Need old timer help with low use charge regimine.

Same pattern here as I work at home. There are days I don't need to drive anywhere, and I can walk to the grocery store and post office. As well, I snowbird in the winter leaving the LEAF at mid charge, unplugged, and on a 12V battery maintainer for 5 months at a time. I just try not to leave...

    2017 A/C not working

My 2016 SV heat pump can make a loud humming, almost buzzing, sound at full tilt when first starting the car if the cabin is heat soaked. In a few minutes it ramps down in speed to just maintain selected temperature, and then the majority sound is from the condenser cooling fans under the hood...

How often does the leaf charge the 12 volt battery.

My 2016 SV charges the 12V every 24 hours for about 5 minutes if there hasn't been any driving. One of the three blue lights comes on during this process. It often seems to happen a bit after midnight, but I don't know if it's triggered by time of day or just happens to be based on my driving...

hatch gets dirty within a day of washing the car

LEAF blower... I like that. You should see the inside of the 17" alloy wheels.. they turn into dust-packing centrifuges, and then when you finally come to a stop on some clean pavement, it dust cakes drop out the sides, like some sort of powdered LEAF droppings.

hatch gets dirty within a day of washing the car

LEAF leaves an impressive wake vortex depositing anything kicked up from the rear wheels onto the hatch. You should see ours after the drive up the two mile gravel road to the house in the dry months of summer. There is so much dust on the hatch you have to yell a warning "clear!" before closing...

    Used 2015 vs 2016?

A few thoughts: 2016 SV may not have auto headlights, but it still has the auto-off "battery saver" timer that shuts off the lights about 45 seconds or so after you turn off the car. It will briefly chime as you exit the vehicle. They will turn back on after you restart the car. Our two 2016...

    Other Nissan Models w/Bio-Suede Interior?

My 2016 SV bio-suede seems to be holding up quite well. Cleaning involves vacuuming and a quick wipe down with a damp microfiber cloth. Light scrubbing with a mild detergent will lift out any skin oils that can accumulate on the door handles and head rests. The fabric seems similar to Alcantara...

    New Leaf owner here

Brake / tail lights and low beam headlights are already LED. The rest of the lights are incandescent and not worth messing with unless for aesthetic / gadget reasons. Turn signal flasher has a bulb out detector, which replacement LEDs would cause it to flash rapidly unless you add a load...

Anyone else out there constantly shifting between modes

I pretty much just drive my 2016 in ECO, and sometimes add in B mode for long downgrades or heavy traffic. ECO does a nice job of smoothing out the tip-in on the accelerator pedal, especially for someone like me with size 13 feet. With non-ECO mode, the tip-in is quicker, and I find my leg is...

    Nissan - Cargo Cover review

Overall I really like it. The cargo organizer lids were designed such that when placed in their slots vertically, the cargo cover still has clearance to close. No problem there. I like having a flat cargo area from the hatch opening to the folded seat backs. There is still a gap though, as the...

    Wifi OBD Tool

My experience is the LELink (Bluetooth Low Energy protocol) works with LeafSpy Pro on both iPhones and Android devices. As well it seems to have very low power draw, and I've not had a problem leaving it plugged in on a day-to-day basis. I still unplug it if I'm leaving for a week or so, just in...

    Nissan - Cargo Cover review

The higher spec trim SL usually comes with the cover. I ordered mine online from one of the many discount Nissan parts dealers (along with the cargo organizer). The cover makes a handy place to keep a sun hat so you are never without should you decide to go for a hike.
