Poll : Number of miles before losing the first bar

Hi Tom Yeah, I was surprised and pretty disappointed at losing a bar at 15000 miles while thinking I was being nice to the battery and when others are going twice or triple that....Drat. I hope the previous owner was mean to it and brought it to the edge of the 15% capacity loss just before I...

Poll : Number of miles before losing the first bar

The time has come to post to this thread. I first noticed the loss of my 12th capacity bar yesterday, though it could have disappeared sometime within the last couple of weeks. It's a little disappointing because I've only put 1200 miles on the car (odometer 14700,) bought last December, so to...

Lame tip 2 - paint your charge port

The mistake in the original design was making everything black on black in the charge port chamber. I went with liquid paper as it is very brite and doesn't need batteries. Where it more usually looks like.... without the photo-flash. Works pretty well.

    winter tires and TPMS

Can any of the cognoscenti here explain why it was necessary to make the TPMS sensors battery powered? Without some specific reason, the only explanation I come up with is that it makes for a nice mfr profit center. TPMS sensor failures can be reliably predicted---because the battery goes dead...

The official "I got my Leaf" thread

Sounds to me like we're mostly in violent agreement. Your clear understanding of the demographic race we're running is good to hear. I admit I am pretty pessimistic that our 'growth is good' capitalist economy will value the web of life sufficiently before enough strands are cut to shut us...

The official "I got my Leaf" thread

I was not kidding at all regarding lack of garage space. The bikes, along with the kayak and sailboard got moved to the ceiling because the walls were fully utilized and the floor has been gone for a decade. To clarify: I did not buy my Leaf out of any consideration of the planet. The planet...

The official "I got my Leaf" thread

Nifty: I've got a long history of bikes going back to 1975 when an accident and resulting intra-cranial neurosurgery made me swear off motorcycles (please ignore the Suzuki in the garage as I am a proud hypocrite.) I've built a few recliners and, before getting the Charger, a couple of less...

The official "I got my Leaf" thread

But I do, and weirder- I've had an Aerovironment Charger http://www.electric-bikes.com/bikes/charger.html e-bike for the last 10 years, a 35 year old Puch moped and a 50CC Suzuki all of which used to get used for much of my local travel. The Suzi can be interesting because it has a box I...

The official "I got my Leaf" thread

Thanks for the thought, Leftie. At this stage everything looks rosy, stay tuned. It all hangs on what one means by "many." I think some of my perspective comes from starting to drive at a time when 160 Mm was considered an upper limit for automotive service life. Sure, I'd be happy to get a...

The official "I got my Leaf" thread

Dec 19th, I bought a silver '12 SL Leaf with about 13K on the odometer and 12 capacity bars. I'm a bit chagrined as clearly I spent a couple k$ more than market. I do wish I'd found mynissanleaf beforehand as I was much more ignorant then than I am now. It isn't bothersome. The way I look at...

    Capacity Loss on 2011-2012 LEAFs

Ah, I see, thanks. Increased current to satisfy a given power demand (P=IE where P is constant and E is reduced,) decreased efficiency trying to get more current out of the same or even less capable (less charged) electrode materials. I expect the chemical disturbance you referred to me...

    Capacity Loss on 2011-2012 LEAFs

ONLY(?) 20kW of sound? Less see, that corresponds to threshold of pain (1w/m^2) at @ 40 meters out and ~150dB one meter from the stack where the band is. Maybe the band needs armor? :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hM3lYIWlYdA Am I right in interpreting this? The damage done by deep...

    Capacity Loss on 2011-2012 LEAFs

OK, I'm starting to get the picture. ;) An extended metaphor to explain lithium ion battery degradation. By Dave Battery = Theater Anode = Lobby (carbon) Cathode = Band on Stage (Lithium with other stuff) Lithium ions = Chemically impaired stoners Electrons = Stoner girlfriends High...

    Cat owner alert

I worked for some years, some years ago, as an ER veterinarian. We saw 'fan belt cats' fairly regularly and they tended to be pretty horribly injured. One, 'Fred,' that the owner didn't want to pay to have treated got adopted as our blood donor cat. He lasted quite a few years. Though he...
