    REALLY!!! $200 gas tax.

North Carolina EV fees are a single fee for all EV with no adjustment for miles driven nor weight. NC reasoning is for a constant revenue stream rather than a fee per mile as the COVID pandemic created a cash flow problem for DOT as the miles driven tax dropped with the drop in miles traveled...

    Enphase field MTBF: M190: ~36 Years M215: ~316 Years M250: >357 Years

The system for M215 with 20 inverters in Sunnyvale has no failures to report. I have a spreadsheet with the monthly outputs of each of the panels. I will link the sheet here so anyone with the link can view. It's an excel spreadsheet and the google docs doesn't show the embedded graphs very...

    Washer fluid in coolant tank

My question is what's in the window washer fluid? If it's some alcohol, water and a surfactant it seems a close match to antifreeze. Just be glad you didn't put antifreeze into the windshield washer. That could make a mess of your paint!

the Real Cost of Energy for Japan

As for PMM you are aware that the LEAF's motor is a PMM? And that the motor in most hard drives are PMM? Most companies develop their own PMM for example the hard drive industry makes PMM that sense position of the rotor without hall devices and use the kinetic energy of the motor as an...

Thinking of blocking the grill in cold weather

Just read this thread and didn't see a reply addressing the coolant for the engine. The electric motor engine, the inverter and the on board charger in the 2011 MY are all water cooled and all on the same coolant system with an air exchange radiator. You can get a temperature logging device...

    Electric Bill

No that one listed for $15 is the 4400 which does not retain readings or allow for electrical rate input. That model which allows for the price input and consumption total would be 4460 for $25 .

Will an '11 handle an 80 mile roundtrip commute in Austin tx

I do 35-40 miles each day with 70 mph driving in the car pool lane. And I could do 60 miles if needed with my 11 bar 2011 LEAF. So with L2 at your work you will be charged to full again in about 3 to 4 hours.

    Electric Bill

There is a metering device that will show how much electricity you are using. A Killawatt meter will measure and accumulate the total KWHr of whatever is plugged into it for around $20. It will lose the information when you unplug the Killawatt from the wall so read it before you unplug. There...

kWh vs kW and why it's important

It makes sense to me since a gallon is volume measurement and a mile is a linear distance. Divide volume by distance and you get an area. Or sweep area for a distance to make a volume. Now for numbers - 1 gallon (US) is 3.78 10^6 mm^3 and a mile is 1.609 10^6 mm. Dividing a gallon by a mile...

Please Help - Ran out of juice on hwy - Car will not charge

Sounds like the 12V battery needs a boost or charge? If you have a battery charger then charge the 12 volt for a few minutes. Be sure to connect the 12V charger ground to the car/chassis ground and not the battery ground. There is a sensor attached to the 12V battery ground.

Turning climate on while plugged in still uses battery

On the 2011 LEAF with 3.6 KW charger plugged into 240 VAC I charge to 100% starting at midnight and finishing after 2AM. When I turn on the LEAF climate control later that morning, the charger draws 4KW AC from the 240 volt AC but the heater in the 2011 will draw 5KW of DC power as it heats the...

How to stop iPhone automatically playing when connected?

I use a charger plug placed in the aux power source for charging with USB cables. Since there is no data connection it will not trigger the internal audio switch over. Yes it is not a software solution and you will have to buy a power plug, I have been using a two port model - e.g...

    Our solar production

For my system this is month 24 and so far is very different from the other 23 months as having 65% of estimated output for this December compared to the 112% average from the prior 23 months. The pineapple express has brought much needed rain and with that comes overcast skies. So maybe the 112%...

Where to get hydrogen? Just suck it straight out of the air!

I apologize for taking the subject further off topic but there are artificial trees which extract CO2 from the ~400 ppm atmospheric concentrations which have been developed by Klaus Lackner. This process uses sodium hydroxide and is believed to be able to extract CO2 for $100/ton. [removed H2...

    LEAF Advisory Board, the sequel...

Please have the car go to park instead of neutral when the car is plugged in to charge if the vehicle is on. Have separate on and off buttons to prevent turning the vehicle back on with a double press on exit. This would help reduce the accidental leaving the car on. Expand the diagnostics...

the Real Cost of Energy for Japan

Quote : Nobody, commenting on this thread, has presented any evidence countering my contention that, Japan cannot compete economically against the Peoples Republic of China (PRC) because it pays too much for energy. Nor, has anyone presented any evidence countering my contention that, all of...

    Quick charging smartphones

There was an ad from 4chan about wavecharging OS8 iphones in a microwave . I suppose it might charge the battery but with destroyed electronics a charged battery isn't very useful. But yes there is a demand for fast charging - even in phones and EV's. I like to be able to swap the battery out...
