Importing US Leafs to Canada - CARWINGS

tivollix: it's possible you're missing the SIM card entirely. Have you checked for that?

Importing US Leafs to Canada - CARWINGS

Did you mean signing up on the account fails, or the CARWINGS connection from the car fails? If it was a registered car with a valid VIN originating from the US, it should work.. or, at least, it has been working for a few of us. Technically, our telematics would be the same as yours if you have...

Importing US Leafs to Canada - CARWINGS

Yeehaaa! So thanks to EVKen, I've discovered the secret to getting US Leaf CARWINGS to work in Canada is to sign up for a US CARWINGS account. Setting up a Canadian CARWINGS account actually messes things up. To get a US account, I just had to have a US address, so I used a mailbox address I...

Importing US Leafs to Canada - CARWINGS

No luck downloading the US iphone app so far. I was logged in, and when I switch countries, it asks me to register again, but I need a US address/credit card. Going to try calling Nissan today to set it up on their end at least. Pretty excited; just got delivery of my Leaf this morning!

Importing US Leafs to Canada - CARWINGS

Just tried that... I'm guessing I have to be in the US to download the US Leaf app? It doesn't show up in the app store. I also downloaded LEAF Link for the iphone. Do you use that? I'm expecting delivery of my 2013 Leaf this Tuesday or Wednesday!

Which dealership for your servicing in Vancouver?

Thanks, tantousha! That's 2 for Morrey Nissan. They're out of the way for me, but if I have to travel an extra 20 min to get trustworthy service, I'm more than happy to.

Importing US Leafs to Canada - CARWINGS

Agreed. But until the incentives come back, Motorize in Victoria will continue to have healthy business importing from the States. And again, although the gov't doesn't have the consumer incentives anymore, I applaud them for making changes that proliferated the EV charging stations to be...

Importing US Leafs to Canada - CARWINGS

Whoa... that sounds promising. Has it done it again today? Were you anywhere near the border? Another way to test it is to see if it connects to the CARWINGS iPhone app. It would be amazing if it suddenly worked!

Which dealership for your servicing in Vancouver?

Hmm... maybe Nissan dealerships are more Leaf-friendly on Vancouver Island? It seems like the perfect place for electric cars because residents know how often they leave the island, whereas Vancouverites hold off on EVs just in case they "might" want to go to Whistler once or twice a year.

Which dealership for your servicing in Vancouver?

Thanks for the tip. I'm actually buying the Leaf from a broker on Vancouver Island who does all the paperwork and conversions needed for importing, so no hassle for me, luckily! Personally, I think he's cornering the market for pre-owned Leaf sales in BC. He imports from all over the U.S. at a...

Which dealership for your servicing in Vancouver?

Which Nissan dealership have you guys registered your Leaf with for servicing? It would be good to know which place is knowledgeable, friendly, and TRUSTWORTHY. I've only dealt with unenthusiastic salesmen so far, but I'm hoping to register my Leaf with a good service department. Thanks...

    Carwings USA/Canada

This should be an obvious and an easy one because: - If I'm in my own city, I may already know some stations or use my own mobile phone internet connection. - In a foreign city, I'm could rely on CARWINGS because I don't have data plan for the other country. - Personal mobile phones in N...

LEAF low sales and lack of advertising

There was a BC incentive program that ran for a few years, but the money ran out just in March this year (a month before I started looking)! Only Ontario and Quebec have their programs still in place. However, don't get too mad at the gov't... in Vancouver alone, there's almost 100 charge...

Importing US Leafs to Canada - CARWINGS

Thanks for your help, evken. Motorize is probably where I'm going to buy one from as well. He seemed more knowledgeable than any dealer salesman I've dealt with (and he owns one himself), and his prices are what they SHOULD be in BC. Glad to see he's smart enough to import multiple Leafs from...

LEAF low sales and lack of advertising

Donald -- that's very odd to hear because a lot of the Nissan LEAF news I read about comes from the UK, especially since there's a Leaf factory right there! Perhaps with the population they take sales for granted? I also see a push to get EVs into India and China, so perhaps Canada (with a...

Importing US Leafs to Canada - CARWINGS

I'm willing to replace that telematics unit. Did you ask a local dealership or someone else? It's good to know you get updates just by driving down there as I go to Bellingham a lot. But this raises a big question: if the telematics unit only works for the US OR Canada, what about Americans...

LEAF low sales and lack of advertising

You'd think! Vancouver actually has an action plan of being the "Greenest City in the World" by 2020. They've made strides with incentives for city facilities (recreation centres, libraries, public parks) and new building developments to add L2 EV charging stations. There's well over 100...

LEAF low sales and lack of advertising

I definitely see ads for the Nissan Rogue all the time, and I believe that's one of their top sellers. In the States, you guys have a federal and often a state incentive for EVs. In Canada, there's only 2 provinces that have a similar rebate/incentive, so it's possible nationally they don't get...

LEAF low sales and lack of advertising

In researching the LEAF, I've found something that kind of bothered me. There are barely any ads for the LEAF. It seems obvious this would affect sales numbers. As well as the LEAF has been doing amongst EV cars, it's still a tiny fraction of total car sales. The lack of national ads is one...
