    Our solar production

    Here is my public site for the system (via the SMA inverters): http://www.sunnyportal.com/Templates/PublicPageOverview.aspx?page=f1062546-7685-4ef0-bcc2-52a57d1015cd&plant=d0deac02-9061-4e7f-819a-c0ac81f789ea&splang=en-US" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

    Our solar production

I have no idea what the pitch is, sorry. As to the pictures, I'll go get some and post them here. My house is a side split, 24 panels face west on the "high roof" (the roof covering the second floor), 16 face south. This is why I have two SMA inverters. It is instead of net metering. There is a...

    Our solar production

We have 40x250W Canadian solar panels with two SMA Sunny Boy inverters (3000 TL and 5000 TL). The system was started in February this year but monitoring started in April: Apr 14 1149.534 May 14 1427.214 Jun 14 1456.153 Here in Ontario there is a feed in tariff for up to 10kw systems that...

Update on Nissan LEAF Battery Replacement

Bravo Nissan! Bravo Carlos Ghosn! After lurking here for years, decided to buy an (old) new 2011 demo this past March. I am very happy with that decision. I hope that the Canadian price is identical, otherwise I'll drive for a couple of days (no QC, 3.3 kw Charger) to the US when the time comes :)

    Pollution: EV vs ICE

Since we were discussing emissions where the energy comes from does not matter. How CO2 intensive is electricity generation from refinery byproducts? Sounds quite dirty to me. Dirtier than the grid in fact.

    Pollution: EV vs ICE

The real question is, how much electricity is consumed to refine a gallon of gas. The numbers differ, but it is somewhere around 5kwh. So, an ICE car just by pumping 2 gallons consumes 10 kwh of electricity. Make sure to factor those emissions in. 10kwh gets a Leaf quite far while the ICE is...

Nissan : EV batteries must deliver 300 km (186 m) to compete

Andy, thank you for the link. I followed the speaker and it all sounds visionary and, have to say, common sense to me (I kind of knew most of the facts he presented, well, maybe less about the economics). But back on the topic, there are no new facts on H2 vs. battery storage. I think the jury...

Nissan : EV batteries must deliver 300 km (186 m) to compete

I was around, but too young to care :) At least we got something back after all those programs. I had no idea about them to be honest. Does anyone know how much the govt spent on H2 vs. battery tech for autos?

Texas Opens FY2014/2015 Alt-Fuel Rebate Program

Sorry for veering into politics: Sarcasm on: Because it is a deficit boosting, free market distorting, job killing program. The role of the government should not be to pick winners and losers, because it picks only losers... On the other hand the government should continue to subsidize the oil...

Nissan : EV batteries must deliver 300 km (186 m) to compete

That sounds good for the consumer, doesn't it? (well, the profitability at least, not the cost) :) I don't care so much about the tech. When there is a H2 car as convenient to fuel at home as my Leaf and as cheap to run, I'll buy one. But I am suspicious of the motives. H2 sounds like a more...

An ICE based car as a second car...

Lexus IS 250 here as the secondary car. Ever since we got our Leaf a month ago I avoid the Ice car like a vampire avoids garlic :) Blue Leaf in Markham Ontario

When does the Ontario Rebate expire?

Probably when Tim Hudak wins the election :? Seriously though, the original press release of the program indicates that it applies to only the first 10 000 registrations: http://news.ontario.ca/mto/en/2010/06/ontario-paves-the-way-for-electric-vehicles.html"...

The official "I got my Leaf" thread

First post, long time reader (few years). We got our Leaf - a 2011 bought with 900 km (dealer demo) three weeks ago. Leaf SV, 2011, currently 1900 km. Not a single trip to the gas station since - I have a secondary Lexus IS 250. Installed a Level 2 Clipper Creek HCS 40 after reading the reviews...
