Charging - plugged-in climate control and EVSE overhead

I have been considering adding a DPDT series switch. As a mobile homeowner, I plan to do my own install after getting the proper permits. Lowes has a 240V/30 amp rated switch that can be easily added to the system. Since I'm planning to use level 2 at less that 16 amps input (with 20 amp...

Charging - plugged-in climate control and EVSE overhead

Leviton's Evr-green 160 is 10 watts idle power. http://communities.leviton.com/message/2149#2149 That would be 87.6 Kw a year or $9.64 at .11/ kilowatt. Not that bad. I can live with it.

    Solar Inverter/Charger

The way to do it would be to make enough power during the day, sell it to the grid at the high rate. Then buy it back during the night when you charge. It would pay for itself. "Sell high, buy low". That is the way to go.

240V EV-ChargeAmerica EVSE - (likely scam buyer beware)

I looked at the NEC 625 code for installing EVSEs. They state no plug-and-cords for more than 120 vac. So for Leviton to make the unit some changes must have been made. I'm having problems finding requirements for GFIC. Since the Leviton unit already has GFIC, do I still have to change out...

    Dual LED for low beam?

The actual cost for the led is probably not that high. I found a 10 watt led for $10 and a 22 watt led for $30. As an example about lifetimes, the Comex sst-90, 22 watt device has a 70% lifetime for 60,000 hours. So they can make them to last. The real cost would be the labor. I'm sure the...

    Dual LED for low beam?

I noticed the blue color inside the headlight when off too. Its probably a blue tint filter that filters the white spectrum output from the led. Personally, I would prefer a "warmer" color spectrum like conventional incandescent lamps. White leds can be reddish or blueish. The eye is more...

    Dual LED for low beam?

All white leds degrade in time. Its a combination of temperature and phosphor life. Does anyone know what the half-life of the led lights really are? I found a little bit on the subject. Below are a few links: http://iopscience.iop.org/0022-3727/43/35/354007 In this paper, the output dropped...

    Install my own EVSE

For making 3d drawings for installation use Google Sketch. I was able to make a drawing showing placement of the Leviton EVSE with 2 outlets. One for 120 vac and one for the leviton. They will be mounted on the backstair porch. Below is a link to a pdf to show what I did with the Google...

Avoid Aerovironment's SF 'Metropolitan Electric' contractor

I saw the video of how the installation is done. Seems like they do contract with local electricians in the area. I also saw in the video a special Diagnostic Tester is used to test the function. Do these local electricians have these too? The only advantage I would see by going with AV would...

    Install my own EVSE

I found something called Floor Planner. Its a web based application that allows you to draw 2d or 3d drawings of floor plans. If I add photos, descriptions and a Bill of Material, that should be good enough. Here is a link to a drawing I made so far at my web site...

Avoid Aerovironment's SF 'Metropolitan Electric' contractor

Shouldn't a permit be first submitted before work even started? I wonder if there ever was an intention of getting a permit.

    Install my own EVSE

Can anyone recommend software for doing cad drawings for electrical work? A free one would be good. Just something simple to show layout and dimensions so I don't have to draw by hand. I'm more familiar with schematic drawing programs for electronics such as PCBexpress, Douglas Cadcam, Eagle and...

    Wireless charging coming...

Wireless charging could be done while waiting at stoplights. A transponder can collect the billing data. I saw a youtube of a bus in China that uses a supercapacitor as a battery. It would charge up at every bus stop. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LYL6NyU1g3k

Will it be illegal to disconnect the noise maker? Will I get a ticket for having a car that is too quiet?

    Install my own EVSE

Why can't I install my own EVSE without the services of an electrician. I would get the Leviton kit, EVSE unit, 20 amp breaker, liquid tight flex conduit, wire and fittings. I would draw up my plans and get the permit to do my own work, then have it inspected. With a little research, I can...

    EVSE and Mobile Home

I live in a mobile home park with an older home built with a 50 amp 240V service to the home. Power for the EVSE will be limited. If I use only the 3.3 kw charger at night, I will be using only 15 amps and that should work out. My dryer, range, heater are all gas. Lighting is with CF lamps and...
