I'm the owner of the car and I was never given any further details of the cause. Unfortunately it is a dead-end anywhere I tried to get any info. I have moved on and hope nobody else goes through this with their car.
Best wishes, Shawn
Thank you for your reply and insight. I am a very laid back guy and not familiar with forums like this. I was sensing conflict and apologize for my misunderstanding. I jumped on because after finding this feed, I saw so much speculation that was off track and was hoping to give first hand...
I did file with on safe car and haven't heard anything yet. My insurance company Unfortunately never did tell me and seem unsure of what caused the fire, they deemed it totaled and moved on. I'll keep everyone posted if there is any more news. Feel free to ask any questions if you need...
Come on guys, this debate could go on forever. Bottom line is, thus far we do not know why my car caught fire! Speculation comes from many angles and ends in even more angles. I began to engage in this forum because I am the one who experienced this problem and am hoping nobody else has but...
Very interesting and informative conversations. So either way, 12v or high power, very odd that my car caught fire. I did not have any cheap connectors plugged in, I did have a high quality lightning cable connected to the USB & plugged into my iPod Nano which fell victim to the fire; however...
I have submitted the information to safe car website and who knows if we'll hear anything from here. Even if it was a low power wiring issue, it still shouldn't have happened as the car was in perfect condition and only 2 years old.
I have pictures from afterward, but do not know how to post them from my computer on here.
I'm surprised also that there are no other known cases of fire with the Leaf anywhere else. So glad that no one else was injured as well as myself.
The vehicle is in a salvage yard in Dallas.
Are we absolutely even the smaller orange wire bundle does not enter into the car in that area? Just looks somewhat suspicious to me.
Can I get a copy of the video, I had no idea anyone had taken the video and would like a copy please.
Shawn
Yes right in front of the cup holders. I wish I had a way to post the crossection picture I found before because it does show orange power cables running in the area which I assume goes to the motor. But there was another in the picture that split away from the main bundle in that area that...
The fire and smoke was coming out of the console in the passenger compartment, not the dash itself. I wish I could post the picture of the cutaway so you could see what area I'm referring to and what is there. The area was right at the cup holders and in front of them in the little shelf area.
My friend found a picture of the Leaf that was a cut-away showing where wiring and battery, etc are located. We showed it to a friend of ours and explained exactly where the smoke and fire appeared from. He suspects it may be faulty wiring in the bundle of the main line. The main power line...
