A thread for people happy with their Leaf

I bought a 2013 Leaf with what was essentially a 2012 battery which meant it degraded really quickly. I legit had like not even 40 miles of range when I traded it in. My daily commute at the time was less than 9 miles round trip. My husband has a regular ICE car that we use for longer trips so...

    Considering a battery replacement.

I want to replace my pack as well, but my local Nissan dealer wants nothing to do with me or Leaf. I was basically told, "Your Leaf is old and you didn't buy it from us, therefore it's not our problem. If you try to replace the pack through us we will charge you at least $15,000 to $20,000 to...

2013-2014 bar losers and capacity losses

Just lost another bar recently (around 60800 miles). I'm now down to 7/12 bars (01/2013 build). I don't drive much so it isn't an issue yet, but I'm definitely looking around for my next electric car. I know a lot more now. One thing that's got me concerned now is the battery fire issue. My...

Can I use an extension cord to trickle charge?

Nissan says no because most people will attempt to use a 14, 16, or 18 gauge cord. The electrician that installed the outlet outside my house for my car (so he knew what it was for) said that using a 12 gauge cord is fine.

    Chevrolet Bolt & Bolt EUV

The fire is still under investigation and the police are looking for it so that doesn't seem to be the case. I can try to get more details, but I've tried not to bother him too much since he has a lot going on. I do know that the car received both updates. His had to be a 2018 or earlier (maybe...

    Official Kia Soul EV thread

Sadness... My husband loved his Soul (it was totalled in an accident). I was hoping that if we purchased a second one that we could buy the EV version.

    Chevrolet Bolt & Bolt EUV

On chevybolt.org and some FB groups, we knew about the VT fire but we hadn't heard (AFAIK) about the NJ one. It was July 2nd in Bound Brook, NJ (https://www.facebook.com/FinderneFD/posts/4728387277191158). I'm not sure what year his car was. The car has mysteriously gone missing since the fire.

    Chevrolet Bolt & Bolt EUV

Probably ego. A truck is a "man's" vehicle. He won't be caught dead driving his wife's dinky electric car. A lot of guys feel that hybrids and electrics aren't manly enough to drive. Just watch Jeff Dunham's bit on driving a Prius (it's not good, but you get the point).

    Chevrolet Bolt & Bolt EUV

My co-worker's Bolt just did this last week! His car was a scorched metal frame surrounded by a pool of melted car and his house was nearly destroyed. I had been wondering the how/why as he hasn't been into work (obviously), and what the danger might be for my car. I was very confused as to what...

What is going to be your next EV?

I had my first car (2000 Camry) for over a decade. It was old enough to vote by the time I finally had to let it go and the only reason I replaced it was due to the fact the backend was badly damaged from an accident the year before and my husband also needed a new car so we negotiated a better...

    Battery health during Coronavirus time

I've been worried about my Leaf, but haven't noticed any issues. We had decided that we would try to use my car more for short trips (local errands and such) since we can charge at home and keep my husband's ICE car reserved for longer trips to his job. However, we are pretty well stocked at...

11/3/2019 WSJ The Key to Electric Cars Is Batteries

Honestly it's a lack of advertising and push by car manufacturers. There's only just recently been any regular advertising of EVs by major car makers that I've even seen. I didn't even know about the Leaf until earlier last year and found out that we'd finally moved from hybrids and PHEVs to...

11 foot 8 "can opener" bridge being raised :(

Awww. We have a 12' 3" can opener in my town. It's been hit a ton of times and the old Bethlehem Steel crash beam finally had to be replaced. I must see at least one post a week on the local Facebook about a truck hitting/getting stuck under that bridge. The bridge was built way back in the day...

2013-2014 bar losers and capacity losses

Lost my 4th bar at some point last month (with around 57,500 miles on it). I'm honestly not sure if I should be following this thread or the 2011-2012 thread since my battery is the original build and not the improved build. I was hoping it would make it a bit longer before dropping that bar...

    Hatch Strut Failure

I went to open the back of my Leaf the other day only to discover that both struts for the hatch had completely failed. There was zero warning and I hadn't done anything unusual to damage either one. The struts had been working just fine up until that point (no slow closing or difficultly...
